They won't.
Sadly, I think we are still a few years/technology away from 500. (Aside from additional batteries/weight.) However, add on solar like GoSun might be a solid assistance until then.

Buy the the $20K range extender. 470 says Tesla, and they are trying for 500.
The OP is in Canada. Tesla's estimated price for the Range Extender is actually $22,000 in Canadian dollars, with a $700 CAD deposit. It's $16,000 in US dollars, with a $2,000 USD deposit. No idea why the deposit is so much lower in Canada ($700 CAD is about $500 USD).

Alternatively, Tesla's estimated price for the Range Extender is $350,000 in Mexican pesos, with an $11,000 MXP deposit.

Gotcha, appreciate the heads up and info.

People like to use that “promised” word and hold Tesla to EXACT quoted predictions from 5 years ago. It was an unveil event, people. They missed the range a bit, inflation happened and it costs more, it’s not a 6 seater, it doesn’t have door handles, etc. Elon was showing it off, building hype, and giving us best guesses, not promises.

They actually under estimated the performance so that’s pretty sweet.

Range is **way** more important to 99% [pick any 9X% as you wish] of the people than performance.

They didn't miss the range by "a bit" ... on the Tri --- from 500 to 320 is a LOT. (towing, cold climates impacts, V2H scenarios (Ford & Chevy have this too), etc was impacted)

but he pinky promised! :) ....we'd all love the 500mi range but the tech isnt there unless range extender or 2x the battery size - both of which have significant compromises! If they get to 500mi on < 150kw battery then im in asap.

I’m noticing that. Guess I’m in the 1%. This has more than enough range to be a daily driver or road tripper and, more importantly, it’s fast. as. hell.

Sure, if you tow a heavy trailer 100s of miles daily, this isn’t it right now. How many people do that? The range anxiety is waaaay overdone.

That type of range in this type of vehicle is a luxury imo. Yes I put my deposit down because I heard 500mi range and 70k for the time trim like most ppl but my expectations changed after 2020 and seeing what 70k got you in the pickup truck market. 300mi in a truck is more than enough for the majority of ppl to use on a daily commute

I agree 500 would be better but if I had to choose I would definitely take performance over range….. wait, now that I think about it that’s exactly what I when I checked the Cyberbeast box instead of the AWD box lol

Most common thing I hear ppl talk about is towing and hauling or lack there of in the CB but to that I reply, I didn’t by my raptor to tow or to haul so why is this want different. To me they are in the same category

You focused on towing but there are other aspects that I mentioned above that were ignored like how they work in the cold (reduced 30+%) or when used in a V2H (emergency, etc), or V2L (worksites, farms, etc).
