This is my first time owning a truck and I realised the massive space needs accessories to organise. In particular i wonder if anyone has a good ski rack solution? I’d want to carry about 4 pairs of skis. Ideally lay them flat on the truck bed because my skis can just about fit at the bottom, where there is the indent. But then that leaves no room for luggage. So any thing that could be stacked on top of the skis?

I’ve carried three pair and lust neatly stacked them up on one side of the bed. My drive to the resort was 2 hrs and no issues or any damage. Longest skis were 180 CM. I carry a spare tire , two totes all the boots and poles with room to spare in the vault. You could probably cobble together something to more completely protect your skis using rigid foam. .

Ski bags are actually really cheap, but skis are also really tough. Luggage won’t do anything to your skis that skiing won’t do. Everyone I know just puts the skis in the bed of the truck and calls it good.

This is a great idea and works because my wifes skiis are shorter as the bed gets smaller going vertical.

I’ll likely just snake a towel between all the skis to keep them from rubbing on each other and then bungee them in place.

The skis get pretty nasty with all the crud spraying around.
More reason to keep them out of the vault. I think they make ski boxes for roof racks.

I’ve been thinking of mounting skis ‘below’ crossbars. Some of the crossbars have t-slots on both sides. That way they would be above the tonneau but produce less drag (hopefully). Does this make sense?

Good question. You'll still have drag no matter where you mount but I don't know if underneath would be a better option?

We utilize two solutions, depending on how long we are going up to the snow for.

Day trips: we bought some trolley tracks equipment and L-track equipment from Amazon and installed them on the L tracks to create a rack that is just below the tonneau cover. It is solid (probably could support 1000lb total) and the bindings end up about half an inch below the tonneau cover. This leaves a bunch of room underneath for other stuff. This solution supports 7 pairs of adult skis for us, but we need to angle the skis as this is the shortest part of the bed. I have posted Amazon links in another thread on this forum. Then the powder skis just sit on the bed (which has a rubber mat). Then we use a large box for the boots asking with a 300w boot dryer to warm the boots up to make them easy to put on. See attached photo.

Week long trips: we want to be able to use the entire bed for other gear and carry 12 pairs of skis, so we have two kuat grip 6 racks (which have multiple mounting holes) and mount them both on the rear two roof rack spots (which are wider). We could mount another 6 pairs on the front two racks when our family has another round of the n+1 rule.

Not sure I understand this logic. If the skis are always in the vault, then they won’t get road crud on them.
I’m not understanding your logic, if you always keep your skis in the vault, what is the point of having them. Shouldn’t you be using your skis outside the vault? Afterwards you wouldn’t want the crud all over in the bed?

I’m taking about road crud, not snow from the ski mountain.

I’d refrain from the rack, it’d decrease your range by 3% on average even without anything attached to them. (TFL did a drive test last year.)
