I need to learn that just saying things which seem ridiculous to me isn’t enough to communicate to people that I’m being sarcastic. What I consider ridiculous… there are people who think it’s perfectly acceptable behavior and might say it in seriousness.

It is traditional for truck and SUV owners to just drive off with whatever snow accumulation is on top of the their vehicle. This inevitably leads to large half-frozen chunks of snow and ice flying off the roof of vehicles at 70 miles per hour and striking vehicles behind you. This is ok though because they are behind you and unlikely to have your license plate number.

The amount of time and effort spent ignoring these huge ice blocks on the backs of trucks and roofs is worth whatever small financial damage other individuals must pay.

Agree, though I haven't noticed crossover, sedan, hatchback and wagon owners doing any different.

So here is a good one and maybe Tesla engineers need to think about those of us who don't live in California weather.

How well will the roll up cover work when covered in snow or ice?

What are your thoughts?
its pretty smooth and angled. I wonder if a little heating and a good jolt wont make it slide off?

If the vault is heated (as Elon tweeted it might be) maybe you could preheat the vault and melt the ice from the cover.
This is the smartest solution. Then the melted ice and/or snow can just run off the vault cover and onto the ground. It wouldn’t lay on there like the flat tonneau cover Rivians used to come with.

The problem for those of us living in the winter wonderland is that also the tailgate freezes (to the tonneau cover) also.
Yeah, ice sucks when it comes to opening your door as well. Also, what happens if the CT runs out of juice and I can’t open the door?

If the CT is out of power, you don't really need to open the door.

It will likely work as well or as poorly as any other tonneau cover out there in the wild. I suspect there aren't many that function well in the snow and ice short of solid lift types, and even those probably don't hold themselves open due to cold struts and weight of snow and ice.

Hopefully there will be a way to open the tailgate while leaving the cover closed.

I seriously doubt the engineers haven’t tested this for ALL climates. In fact I bet it’s part of their standard testing regimen for every new vehicle. It is for the rest of the industry. So I doubt Tesla somehow ignores that since they design in California.

Seems like a problem to worry about if and when it becomes an actual problem

You can't even open the door without rolling down the window
I remember having to enter my Camaro via the passenger door and contort my way across the center console into the driver seat during one Ohio freezing rain event. I quickly learned to park the car with the passenger door facing the wind instead of the driver door. :D
