The guy at the RV park wasn't pulling all the amps, and it was a display issue.

Curios what the infotainment screen inside the truck was displaying. Could be a glitch in the handheld app. You can easily time it to see how many mi you get over a session

Forgive my ignorance, but you’re saying it’s a hyperactive analysis rather than a true fluctuation, am I right? If that is the case, why send that input so instantaneously as to rupture the viewers perception of charge rate? Assuming the ignorance of most owners includes a lack of understanding that the mph charge rate is irrelevant to the consistency of 48A without fluctuation. It is, after all, implemented into the app so as to be visible by the layman.

You are not wrong. Amperage is truly what matters. Not sure if Tesla wants the mi/hr to show the fluctuation or not but I found it to weird. If it’s a bug then I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon.

Good idea I’ll plug it in and see what the infotainment reads. I think I’ll also run a timed test to see what the true mi/hr rate is.

I’m curious if other owners have noticed something similar with their trucks? It’d be nice to know if it’s an every truck thing or not. Hopefully if it is a little bug it’ll get fixed soon. Great looking truck BTW.

I posted this on the YT video as well, but adding here for visibility. I think its just a calculation bug.

Given that the CT is likely less efficient than your Model S, I imagine it should never reach 35mph on both. Perhaps its a miscalculation and in the 20s is more correct for the CT.

48amp X 235v = 11280watts divided by 500w per mile for the CT = 22.56mph.

Based on my extensive research, the charge current is alternating up to 60 times per second!

Agree that the fluctuation is odd, it's good that it remains at 48 amps, it may be a software glitch like crissa says, may be that the cybertruck is cycling other software components like was mentioned here, did you notice if it stays fluctuating the whole charging session or just the first 5 - 10 minutes? Also, it would be interesting to see if that fluctuation is also seen on a third party app like Tessie (which I find helpful to analyze battery health, real battery capacity, etc).

Even if it were a fluctuation, it's not concerning.

The mph is based upon the Wh per mile and the remainder power after all other loads.

The charger always is fluctuating, we just usually don't see it because the software tries to take a long enough sample so the display isn't noisy.

Balancing a noisy display against getting feedback from adding load to the truck (like turning AC on or off) is a tough trick.

It is also possible that there is a differential in what the CyberTruck battery brain is requesting for charge rate or pulsing for a specific reason due to the larger surface area of the battery compared to the model s. One would have to watch this over the entire charge cycle. It fluctuates throughout the charging session. I might dive deeper into this by monitoring and logging each hours true charge rate to see if it’s consistent throughout the session or if it fluctuates hour on hour.
