Like I said, better chance of winning the lottery. For the sake of numbers, say this happens once a day in the US that's 1 out of 330million people. If you worring about things like this something else is wrong.

Sure it's something to think about, but not worry about. One could weld a chunk of armor steel to any truck

As many police shootings as there are, it might start to be advisable to get a supply of armor steel to weld to all sides of one’s car.

Alas, they usually ask you to step outside to be shot. Very few are through the metal side panels. Usually the windows, if they have to shoot into a car.

Sure if makes you feel better.

personally would just wear a vest all the time if I was truly worried. I had one that fit decently under normal clothes, it was hot but not entirely uncomfortable, you couldn't tell I was wearing it unless you knew my physique. As it made me thicker than I am.

most of the examples were not from the rear of the car, but that's because the car's weren't Tesla's...a Tri motor's gonna outrun a lot, therefore a bp tailgate is legit!

I dont need it, I need the ramp, but depending upon how they build it maybe I'll get both! Yay!

To be perfectly honest, my father was wrongly shot, killed by a bullet that penetrated the tail light and entered the cabin through the plastic paneling inside our station wagon.

Now, aside from police officers, I cannot think of such a situation in real life.

-Crissa
I am incredibly sorry to hear that, and I have the utmost respect the fact you realize the probability of such events.

True, true.

Heaven forbid one ever gets asked to step out of their car for the cops. Happened to me just a few days ago. After I was out of the car, they seized my car, towed it, covered every access point with crazy evidence tape (you don’t ever want to get this tape on anything cause it’s crazy difficult to remove), got the drug dog to jump all over it and scratch up the paint, shuffled literally everything out of the car, stirred it together, then threw everything randomly back into the car. Then finally at the end of the search that took 7 hours, they made me pay $575 for the tow fee, me back my car, and sent me on my way. What a total waste of time, resources, and effort that was.

On a side note, anyone know the easiest way to remove evidence tape? I’ve been reading up and it’s NASTY stuff. I’m going to start trying to remove it tomorrow.

Shooting at a fleeing suspect is generally a violation of due process or right to be secure in one's person.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_v._Garner

Unfortunately in general practice there are many instances of these violations. Often if the person who was violated doesn’t have the means or related resources to fight back, there are no consequences for the violations. Even with means and resources it is often difficult for perpetrators to be brought to account.

As long as that is the case there seems to be scant chance of these violations going away.

The cops violate that allllll the time. Since when have the cops followed a law that got in their way.

They follow the President Andrew Jackson rule:
"the courts have made their decision now let them enforce it"

Somehow all suspects were running backwards with invisible guns in the suspect hand pointed at the cops that only the cops can see. And the other hand of the suspect is going for the cops gun even though the suspect is 30 feet away. And just after the cop reluctantly (apply sarcasm font) fired his gun one time, in a nano second the suspect spins around and receives 20 bullets in the back and back of the head and then instead a falling the suspect runs towards the cop so the cop had to fire one more time.

You do not get the point. What happened was not accidental and not a waste of time.
It is punishment. It is intimidation.

Your loss of time and financial losses are extra-judicial.
No courts, no judicial judge, no trial, no jury, no judicial judge considered sentence

The police are the law. judge , jury, execute punishment.

" 7 hours, they made me pay $575 for the tow fee"
You are lucky you did not have to start paying daily impound fees.

Now think of the impact of what happened to you when it happens to to someone working two jobs for total annual income of $15K.
Likely fired from both jobs (7 or more hours missed) and with likely not able to immediately pay $575 so now paying 30% interest fees and daily impound fess. No car to use to find other jobs.

Without looking, I can tell you none of those were shot from behind.
Weird to know info without reading it.

Ok, if the others were not enough, here are some specifically where shots were fired from behind vehicle.

These are road rage incidents not gang shootings. Just a small sample from a few parts of U.S. in mostly last few years. A full research survey for longer time period (40 years) and entire U.S. should find many more. I even saw some mentioned for Canada & Australia but I did not put on this list.

In one road rage case the perpetrator waited for the car to pass-by and stop at a stop sign. The perpetrator got out of his car to shoot the victim's car from behind. The bullet did not hit the driver but did hit a little 3-year old boy siting in the back seat. The child died from bullet in the back.

There was another one where bullet goes through rear window and out the windshield.
Fortunately no one was serious injured.

Some pickup trucks with bullets through rear window and bullets into truck tailgate.
Seem like these would be very relatable to this Cybertruck discussion.

I was thinking about the bed tailgate: as we have seen, it is made of 3 telescopic parts, all of the same steel. This means that they are 5, maybe 6 layers of 3mm 300? stainless steel.
I wonder what kind of bulletts can be stopped by this layered wall? I mean: in a car pursuit where guns are fired to a CT, due to its shape, most of them are going to hit the gate. Perhaps in this situation a CT could offer protection from ammunitions above 9mm?

Depends on where the bullet hits the ICE engine.

There are many areas of an engine that are large empty areas (empty areas in cylinders, piston connecting arm area, lower block to oil pan, intake & exhaust manifolds). Then there are other areas than would be very dense with high strength steel (crankshaft, camshafts).

At the right spot, path and very lucky timing it might be possible for a bullet to go through an engine and it continue operation for awhile.
