The 'Cyber cell' is ready and meeting expectations.

This is what they said on the earnings call.

So... No more worrying about how they're going to reach 500 miles of range; they know the answer, even if we don't.

Okay?

More is better. It's also pricy lol.

I'll take the 500-mile range model if that's what is offered to me first, but 350 is just fine if I get to save $20k.

500 mile sounds nice but 350 is enough for me. Frankly for most of my drives, this $5-$7K BEV has enough range. If they sold these in U.S. at these prices, folks would go green a lot faster.

I need more than 400 miles to ditch my gas car where I live. The charging infrastructure isn't there yet, degradation will kill 5-10% after a few years, you're supposed to keep it between 10-90% charged, and we have Canadian winters that can suck up 40% of your range on the worst days. Our Model 3 can get us around town and most places we travel, but there are still times it's either useless or extremely inconvenient to get where we need to go. 500 miles would make our whole region accessible gas-free.

No. They said 10% more density from cell struct changes. Silicone and heavy metal changes hopefully Next year to get the longer ranges.

Well, if you profile 4680 from a cylinder to a rectangular prism, just a little bit, 10% energy density increase is not that difficult. You can still meet collison safty and cooling requirement.

I would much rather have 500 miles and dual motor, and save the money on the unnecessary things like quad motor and rear wheel steering.
That being said, I am a night of reservation holder and will probably take what they give right away because I’ve been patiently waiting for years while my ice car is aging out fast.

Alas, why would Tesla do that? The extra motors need the bigger battery to perform well, and the battery is most of the cost. So once you have the battery, you're basically getting the motors for free.

Rear wheel steering adds to the safety. Not only will it allow the truck a longer, wider wheelbase for the same performance... it will allow the truck to perform better for the 'moose test' and stabilize towed loads against wind and sway.

Neither are things I'd have paid extra for, no. But they will make the truck perform like no other.

I'm glad there is a solid 70% majority who still recognize 500 miles of range is what the doctor ordered.

I'm not sure what Cyber cells are. 4680-wise tho it doesn't seem like they would have enough ... for the 500-mile range and filling the number of orders in a reasonable time frame.

Telse Model Y is ~78 kWh and uses 830 of the 4680 cells.
2.56 times more for Cybertruck (200 kWh / 78 kWh).
Cybertruck 500 mile 200 kWh would require 2128 of the 4680 cells (830*2.56).

Didn't they specifically say it was 10% over the existing 4680. Is that enough efficiency to get us to 500 miles in a relatively economical way?

My gut (for whatever little that is worth) is telling me the initial release will not be at that range and we (or more accurately those who want/need it) will have to wait a little bit until yields improve and they add the additional improvements mentioned at battery day that they have not incorporated yet.

It sounds like there is still a lot they can do to further improve the chemistry of the batteries.
