With the Twitter takeover, CT new leaks might be scarce. I am sure there are solid folks getting it done, but the Chief Twit is busy spreading misinformation. What a waste of talent.

Spreading misinformation? I was under the impression he just wanted an open forum for safe conversation while preventing dangerous misinformation.

If that is what he wants, tweeting out false stories and then deleting them without admitting that he got duped might not be the best way to go about it.

That's fair. It'd be nice if people gave references when they stated "facts". If they did, it would probably quell most misinformation fires.

He shared a link to an article suggesting Paul Pelosi had a bad encounter with a male prostitute.

That is the UD in FUD. Somehow hitting someone in the head with a hammer is OK if there is gay stuff involved. This is a distraction from the message that the far right is stirring up violence in some of their members. Also by misinformation and hyperbole.

He removed the link after 10k people had already 'liked it' Very disappointed. Damage was done.

What's the problem?

Way off topic here but I propose a solution to social media commentary.

Instead of like or dislike have a scale of 1-10. 1 is highly disagree and 10 is highly agree.

There are often post on this site where I agree with 80% of a post so I " like" it, but don't have the time to refute the 20%.

Same with some right wing position. Sometimes they have a valid point but provide misleading evidence to get there. I might rate it a 3.

The key would be sorting our or turning down the volume of people who are all in Right or Left and always vote 1 or 10 without critical thought. Only mostly true sentiment will truly rise to the top and go viral. Maybe really good cat videos. :)

IDK. Social Engineering is not real engineering. I wish Elon stayed out of it.

Isnā€™t deleting them ā€œadmittingā€œ they should not have been tweeted?

Most people wouldnā€™t have known heā€™d done it if it hadnā€™t been reported. Which is worse, posting the story, realizing it was wrong and removing it, or writing dozens of articles about it? Which spreads the word more effectively?

All the people whining about this are more effectively broadcasting it than Musk did.

If he says "whoops, turns out that was horseshit" he seems like a reasonable fallible human being.
If he deletes it and says nothing he seems at least a little obstinate, and it does nothing to address the apparent implication that he wanted it to be true for some reason.
I'm not in the mans head, I don't know what he thinks and feels, I can only talk about appearances.
Which certainly matter when you own the damn thing and are trying to set an example of how to use it properly.

When I say something stupid on the forums, I delete it. Thatā€™s what most people do.

Actually thatā€™s not entirely accurate. Most people on the internet argue that their stupid point of view is correct until the end of time. But reasonable people just delete nonsense theyā€™ve posted. That (in theory) stops it from propagating. Would anyone here have even known about this organically if the media hadnā€™t picked up on it? I never saw the post in question in Muskā€™s feed, just the outtakes from the media.

The idea that making a single stupid post and deleting it will make him ā€œToo busy to work on the Cybertruckā€ is just ridiculous.

It would be a lot easier to listen to the whinging about Twitter if it were in fact a healthy, fully functional platform. But itā€™s not and hasnā€™t been for quite a few years.

Twitter has been circling the toilet bowl due to mismanagement for at least the past 5 years. Itā€™s a total mess. Do we let Facebook become the internet Town Hall? Reddit? Each of these platforms falls way short of what Twitter has been in the past.

If Twitter fails, then itā€™s role gets filled byā€¦ Facebook? Do we seriously want Zuckerburg in charge of this? Iā€™d prefer Musk didnā€™t step in, but the alternatives seem worse.

He then tweeted that he didn't post misleading information.

I really wish people could admit they were wrong. Or that they effed up and suggested something bigoted. It happens! In the civil world, we apologize and try to do better next time.

It's just so frustrating when that seems so hard.
