By personal choice. I have a vehicle that has many tens of thousands of miles left in it. I was planning on waiting years to get the ct after launch originally. I chose to get a reservation later after realizing waiting any longer would mean getting it after my desired time frame, just as others have chosen to pay a premium for first in line. I bet I'll get my ct approximately when I was planning on ditching my ice vehicle. You don't see me complaining about my choice.

For those who can choose to pay premium for early access, I'm sure if there are any price increases, they will not be put out by paying for those increases if it is the case.

For those who paid the premium but are on the edge of affording it, they probably shouldn't have been willing to pay the premium to begin with.

But again, I'm not in the camp of thinking there will be big price increases.
My main point was that Elon is very crafty. Once again he over promised and underdelivered on a launch timeline and faced having to be stuck selling hundreds of thousands of trucks at prices that made sense for the original timeline but now look to cost him tens of thousands in opportunity cost per vehicle. But, he found a way to collect even more money with this quad motor plan by forcing all Tri-Motor early adopters to cancel their guaranteed $70k price for something that will likely be well over $100k. He profits more than ever at the expense of his customers despite his operational failures.

I think $70k was a possible stretch for many people, but $100k+ will not be. Sucks to be those loyal customers I guess that are losing out due to Elon's failure to deliver on a timeline.

You sound a little butthurt. Almost like you reserved very early hoping to get a great deal on a Cybertruck and now you feel like people with money are going to cut in line ahead of you. If that's the case you are not alone. I reserved about an hour after the reveal ended (after watching some livestreams of people riding in the Cybertruck.)
It took me a bit to get over the fact that Tesla is coming out with a High End CT, which people that will pony up the big bucks will be jumping ahead of us in line to get. After all, we've been waiting awhile, and now it looks like we'll be waiting even longer.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, or I could be totally wrong. But I think this plan that Elon and Tesla came up with is, so we can get OUR vehicles at the price we reserved them at. They realized those prices are going to be very difficult to start making Cybertrucks for, because it's such a new complicated production process, and even producing 4680 batteries isn't as cheap yet without economy of scale. They MAY be coming out with the Quad first, to build them in smaller numbers with a much higher profit margin, so they can at least start producing Cybertrucks to WHOMP on the competition and their electric trucks. Then, as they figure out production of 4680 batteries and better, more efficient ways of building Cybertrucks. They will be able to build OUR CT's at our prices. Also, along those lines the single, which will probably have the tightest profit margin, will be the last on their list.
THIS IS ALL SPECULATION! :)
I think we're either going to be waiting much longer than you think or we will actually never get that tri-motor for $70k. Best case, you get your Tri-Motor in about 3-4 years once they actually start production a year from now and burn through the long list of quad upgraders. So yeah, that makes your Tri-Motor Cybertruck 4-5 years behind schedule if you want to force them to honor their price....if they even do. All while people who reserved way after you enjoy their Plaid/Quad monster CTs as you wait several years. You're not upset by that? You are a better fanboy than me.

To be clear, I don't think they care about getting any of us a $70k Tri-Motor truck. I think they realize that those prices are two years, huge demand, massive inflation and one pandemic ago. They're hoping to get every one of those reservation holders to cancel and slot up into something with a price tag to match the demand and inflation in prices.

Exactly. Get pissed if/ when we know WTF is happening.

This is a giant pile of assumptions piled on assumptions.

Absolutely, but highly likely assumptions nonetheless that are probably more accurate than an Elon production timeline.

Since Elon’s timeline was 50% off on the Cybertruck, sure. I agree it’s slightly more accurate than Musk’s timeline estimate.

Yep, we're just going to have to do the same thing we do every day. WAIT & SEE.

BTW, I took my Chrsyler Pacifica in to the dealer today (Check engine light) They're going to replace the heater for Hybrid battery under warranty. And I was looking around, getting sticker shock.
They have a 2022 TRX with a MSRP of $96,060. But with dealer markups, the final price is $148,744 CRAZY!!!
I took a photo of it in shock, then when I went home and was looking at it, I dug deeper and noticed some other crazy stuff. I noticed in the top right corner it said

You SPEND
$12,000
more in fuel costs
over 5 years
compared to the
average new vehicle

So then I looked at fuel mileage. 12mpg combined, 10 city, 14 Hwy. (WOW)
Also they have 2 graphs. One for Fuel economy and greenhouse gases, and the second for Smog rating. They both had bars that go 1-10. And the TRX is a 1 for both.

I would guess the numbskull that buys a TRX for that kind of price, couldn't care less about those things, but they are going to be shocked with the value of that thing in 5 years. Cybertruck for the WIN!!!

Back in 2012 or so I was looking for an SUV. My big criteria was fuel economy and a price that wouldn’t break the back. My expectations were that since there were a ton of cars that got fuel economy in the high 20 up to the mid 30s back in the 80s and 90s there should be fantastic options.

Looked high and low and the best I could come up with was the Subaru wagon that got ~32MPG.

That is still about as good as you can get for something it’s size regardless of hybrid or not.

That’s when I knew the industry was broken. 30 years later we are no more efficient. EVs didn’t have a huge bar to cross, the ICE industry was stagnant for decades with improvements being largely surface dressing.

Lets all just take a deep breath and wait about a month or so for the earnings report with Elon's updates... Im sure its gonna happen.. in a month or so.. for sure..
This seems to be the nature of the Tesla-beast. Crappy communications is expected.

No fears though. Once the Cybertruck is a more mature produce communications will still suck.

So you're saying Tesla is like a company with Asperger's. Brilliant ideas and able to focus on solving major issues, but their social skills are lacking.

That is a crude but perhaps accurate description.

My post came across as quite cynical, but I think it realistically captures my expectations of the company.

They will do big things which I mostly agree with, but small things may step on toes.

It’s a formula that works so long as Tesla’s products are so different / far ahead of the competition. It might eventually bite them in the ass though.

It's a wonderful thing and interesting development; the Quad that is.

However, what is the impact now on the reservation numbers. People with low reservations that switch over to the Quad, will they keep their place or will there be a new run on reservations once Tesla opens up for reservations.

With the change to quad and folks changing orders to the quad, my question:

Will date and time of order play in the sequence of who gets the quad first? I ordered during the reveal once web was open and could connect. Yes, I am updating to Quad. Take my money, I need all the motors.

We don’t even know if the tri-motor config will ever exist. My feeling is it will be erased entirely. Leaving the dual and quad motor configs as the only ones available for quite a few years.

Presumably at the January earnings call this will be made clear.

“In a month”…
