I think you're going to be disappointed if you think non-FS Cybertrucks are going to come with additional batteries. I don't think we'll be seeing Cybertrucks with bigger battery packs/more range any time soon.
Tesla came out with AWD Model 3 shortly after the long range RWD debuted. People probably though the same thing then... You won't see AWD anytime soon...

Well now all those “Shareholders” can relax with sales dropping.

Inside plan: Sell V1 for $100k-$120k to inpatient people with half the batteries and range. And then 2025-2026 sell the original 2019 500 mile CT for $150k-$200k?!

Like selling the Model Y rear wheel drive at release, then adjusting price when the ER Duel came out. Brilliant!!! Then when demand drops so does the price.

Be careful what you ask for. Current generation batteries are heavy AF. If you put in too many you end up with this 4.5 ton monster.

Then everyone will start complaining about charging times, tire wear, suspension issues and more. I'm all for adding lightness for those of us who don't need the extra mass and capacity.

BTW, this discovery might imply that the "range extender" option does NOT mount in the truck bed. Maybe, just maybe, it will mount into the existing extra space and Tesla wasn't ready to give this tidbit away.
Then why have the pictures of it in the bed?

I'm happy with the current battery size (123 kWh). I don't tow, and I don't live winters up north. I like the efficiency of a lighter truck and I like having 2500 lbs of cargo capacity. If I wanted a longer range, big heavy, inefficient, open bed, traditional looking truck, I would have bought the Silverado.

Set expectations with customers (and really competitors) and then engineer a way to do it better.

Can send competitors specifically down a false path/waste resources.

I can understand that Tesla might hold back on a double-stacked HV pack until the 4680 ramp is further along.

But then why the dog-and-pony show of the "Range Extender"?
Perhaps the big pack just wasn't ready. And they had already delayed for the 4680's enough. They needed to come out with something, so they just made a 123kWh pack to get to 300 miles which was the AWD plan in the first place. The extender is the surprise, you can optionally extend the AWD to 470 which was not previously planned. And as a bandaid get the Tri up to 450 miles of the planned 500. Once they refine the pack it may get the Tri to atleast 500. And if they keep the optional range extender, that's an additional ~140 miles giving it 640.

Though I'm guessing once the Tri gets 500 they may stop the extender so as to preserve the higher range Tri.

If they gave the AWD the 500 there's the sweet spot. But probably won't.

The front seats are not to bad, the back seat headroom is limited.
Demographic wise men purchase far more trucks than women, and in general men are taler than women so the complaints about headroom are understandable.

No reason Tesla would design the core of the vehicle to needlessly eat up headroom. 2x range is in sight which is sorely needed for those that use a truck for more than groceries and need to tow.

Been waiting for my FSD to add value to my Teslas for the last 7 years. We may be on mars before that happens.
Well, since I use FSD every time I drive my Model S, It's definitely here now. The only reason I don't take the Cybertruck everywhere is if there is a decent amount of driving involved. If there is, I'll take the S so it can drive. The truck will get it shortly, which is in stark contrast to the Chevy that will NEVER improve without buying a new one. But again, if you NEED the range for towing, then get what you have to.

Yup the CT makes a great around town car, or a super fun weekend car.
But like you said if there is any significant driving to do it is not the best option, although once the pack size gets increased it will be viable work truck AND daily driver beyond the store.

No, what I said was, once FSD is on the Cybertruck (i.e. in few months), that's all I'll drive. I meant that going anywhere that's over 10 minutes away, I'll take a vehicle that can drive for me.

BTW, I LOVE how people are saying what is and isn't a viable work truck! Apparently a viable work truck requires a fragile outer skin that can be easily dented, scratched, etc, that requires constant maintenance, and requires a lot of money to fuel. All while usually driving less than 200 miles a day.

I owe you an apology from months ago. You thought double stack was an option, and I thought you were wrong….

interesting find. Can’t wait to see the longer video.
And I was just quoting an article which took an offhand remark from an engineer in the pre-reveal press.

It was plausible, but I didn't think they'd leave space in all the trucks for it. That's kinda nuts. The trucks now could have three inches more clearance under most of the body, as well as being stiffer!

I don't think that the applause was for a single number on the chart, it was the totality of the vehicle.

But reality exists, things didn't work out as planned. Get over it. Time to move on. It's 2024.
Also, this is a good point: They literally said there were be non-500 mile range variants. And that those would probably come out first.

It's like the people who compare the single-motor price to the Cyberbeast price. It's pure projection.

This all looks like wishful thinking to me. The extra space isn't enough for another layer of batteries. Might be used if they changed to a taller battery but that would probably involve massive tooling changes to the battery line. Maybe Munro will speculate on that.

IF they fatten up the CT charging curve, range wouldn't be so much of an issue.

For now, if you want range you'll have to go with the Silverado/Sierra EVs. Just comes down to what you value most.

The charge rate being decent would help a lot. For a vehicle of that size to be anything but a showpiece it needs to have a BIG battery or FAST charging, ideally both. Chevy currently has both and I am hoping the CT will get one or the other, both would be great and this room in the pack I do not think is an oversight by Tesla.
