Could you imagine trying to keep that thing between the lines and away from curbs?? The body is nearly 80” wide, but add two feet to that, and it wouldn’t make it thru some parking lots! 🥺🤣🤣
Add 2 feet? The flares are usually 3-4" on each side so at most it would add 6-8" to the width of the truck.

As he identified?

We've been discussing that the front bulkhead is tilted back, which makes the space at the top look a little smaller than it is down inside, since the reveal night.

He wasn't even a member of the forum then.

Normally, yes... but you need to look at the wide body render pic again. Those flares ain't no 3-4"!! 😂

Truck is a Chevy Colorado crew cab long bed (advertised as 74" long) with a factory bed liner. I measured 71.75" long (ridge at the top of the bed which the bike tire is mainly touching) and 73.75" long at the bottom of the bed. The bike is a large Turbo Levo (47" wheelbase, 76" overall length).

Hopefully the CT bed is just as good or slightly better in size.

Tesla Cybertruck First inside perspective garage pic: Cybertruck parked w/ bed lighting on and bike in bed 1-

here’s the main differences, though:

• your bed is 74 inches long at the bed floor, but 71.75" long at the top of the bed which the bike tire is mainly touching

• CT bed is 72.9” long at the bed floor, but where the bike tire would make contact is nearer to 66” - because the CT’s bulkhead slopes towards the tailgate

Meanwhile, this guy threw the down tube tube over the tailgate, on a bike that is ~62” rear rubber to down tube

and that’s why you see the bike’s rear tire only a few inches away from the portion of the bed visible in the photo

like the bed lip of your truck encroaches ~2” towards the tailgate making contact with the tire, the CT’s encroaches ~6” and is ~1” shorter to begin with

there really is zero mystery here. Only confusion about what Tesla means by a 72.9” bed (it’s at the floor only)

They've whittled down the usable bed size and the front trunk size to the point that the truck has limited utility as a truck.
The 5ft usable bed length and narrow cross section has turned it into a boutique vehicle like the R1T.

it has as much bed cargo area as an F150 SCREW (a couple cuft more, actually)

and combined with the Frunk, sun-bed storage, and rear seat cargo area it has a good bit more all-in cargo area than a Ram 1500 with a 6’3” bed

And that’s a *whole* lot more cargo area than a Rivian

A but less than a Lightning

BUT, all the Cybertruck storage is lockable space too!

I almost bought a Lightning a few weeks ago but couldn't stomach living with a 5.5ft bed. I could probably make a 6.5ft work, but 5.5ft is a bridge too far. You can't even haul a mattress in a bed that short.

The vast majority of pickup trucks in the world have small beds.

Just because it doesn't work for you or I, doesn't mean it has a tiny demand.

The Rivian has clever extended tailgate arms that make the bed 7' (discussed in various places but also a YT with RJ and Sandy M).

"For maximum length, we developed the tailgate with a gooseneck hinge system, extending the bed floor to 83.9 inches with the tailgate down. With the tailgate up, the bed length measures 54.1 inches, making it easier to get around and park every day."

Why don't Americans ever paint or finish their garages? They always just leave it bare gyprock.
So we don't feel bad when we drive a golf ball through it during garage golf simulator use.

Rivian and every other truck manufacturer way before Rivian existed. I'm sure the CT will have this option also. At least as an aftermarket product if not a direct option from Tesla.
