Apparently, you can turn on the parking lights.
walk away from the car it will lock the doors and turn off the car.
turn on the alarm indicated by the chirp and close the windows, but the lights will never go off!
I just found out that my parking lights including the hood bar light turned on at full blast
for 2hrs straight while parked in my driveway with the lights pointing straight into my neighbor's house. now WTF is that about?
I used the parking lights to be respectful about my bright headlights, so I use the parking lights instead and this happens.
you can't even leave the radio on and close the door without turning the radio off.
but you can leave the lights on indefinably f@*k it!

Then select "off" in the light menu instead of "parking" when switching from "auto".
Parking means you want the lights on to make the vehicle more visible regardless of if you are in it.
This has been the case for all Teslas since version 2013.12 or so.

Why would switching off of AUTO, let them to continue to act AUTOmatically.

This is not a flaw. My 5 yr old model 3 acts the same. I would be very frustrated if they turned off, as there are many use cases to leave them on after exiting, which I use often, as designed.

I don’t think you have to worry about this killing the battery. Just remember to set them back to auto before exiting and you’ll be all good.

First vehicle?

Parking lights are “parking lights” since 1968.

You turn them on when waiting in a drive, or want others to see you without using flashers.

But yes parking lights are to stay one with the vehicle on or off.

On different circuit and “yes” the lights will drain the accessory battery.

Good read: LOL.

Manual indicates they stay until you change it to something else or you drive again.

oh cool, the radio stayed on? I can't keep mine on. When at work, camping or just working on the truck the radio turns off after about 15 minutes. Have to go into truck and select menu over and over again and have to leave a door open to keep music going.

I can understand If they stay on while you are in the truck or working around near the truck. but you've walked away from the truck already. I can't think of a single scenario where you would want to leave your lights on all night or until it completely drains your battery and gets you into even worse problems associated with a completely dead battery. under normal everyday use this would never be necessary and the risk of leaving them on and forgetting outweighs the benefit of this feature by a whole lot. on the other hand, I can think of lots of scenarios where you would want to leave the radio on while you work or play near the truck, but you can't even get out without shutting off the radio. someone have a good reason for being able to leave lights on while you are somewhere else away from the truck.

Change to auto and you will have no worries about the lights. They will stay on for a bit and turn off.

Switch to camp mode if you want to jam out when you exit the vehicle.
