Hey, would you mind connecting me with your installer? My installer is telling me that, in order to get solar, PW, PS, and CT working together, that I need my existing PS gateway AND a new Gateway 3.

If the PS gateway (which I bought in 10/24 and have not installed yet) is not capable of managing the solar and PW elements, why would Tesla sell it as the solution (pending software update)?

I shouldn't have to shell out an extra $4k for a second gateway...
Your installer is wrong, unless they are doing a stacked system where Powershare kicks in after Powerwall runs out...

The Powershare Gateway (3V) is not compatible with Powerwall. You need a Gateway 3.

There are several threads talking about the difference between a gateway 3v and V3 I think or some other confusing naming scheme I don’t exactly recall.
As I said, I never had a gateway, but your installers logic sounds vaguely familiar from what I have read in those threads.
You need a a reliable source. @mongo are you out there? Or does it need to to be said three times like beetlegeuse?
Dang, give a bot a chance! Or didn't you want references and citations 😉?

Yes, I gave these exact two screenshots to the installer, who asked Tesla, who responded with basically the same thing, that the 3 takes over for the 3V. Yet, the 3V was sold with the promise that PW support would be added 2025...

So.... Why the fuck did I buy a PowerShare Gateway?

If it had been installed when you bought it, you would have had around a year of Powershare backup, plus it might make the Powerwall install faster.
However, if the inital install is Powerwall, there was no purpose. Might be able to sell it to installer or 3rd party for their use on a Powershare install.

Not that it helps now, but the web pages always called out that a Powerwall setup didn't need extra hardware for Powershare, just the software.

Also, in Phoenix at least, where there are defined peak and off peak rates, the powerwalls’ completely idiot proof time based settings cut my power bill in half before I ever installed the panels.
Yeap, I won 3 Powerwalls in the referral program and my SRP power bill dropped to less than half of what it was. Solar is not even worth it considering the price I am paying for off-peak power.

Good decision in my opinion. I don’t think you’ll regret it especially with a third being on Uncle Sam. Also sounds like a pretty good deal.

maybe a little higher than what tesla quotes on their website. But I read that tesla quote does not include the sales tax?
Also when the time comes for an actual PW install hopefully poweshare software update is done and ill tell them to remove PS gateway

The website says it includes taxes and that lines up with the quoted prices (round number + sales tax)
They'll need to remove the Powershare Gateway for the Powerwall install.

Tesla was not the best choice in my case. Also, are you ready to wait 6 months or more for an install?

Congrats! You're going to love it. I have a 22kw system with 2 PW+s and I love it. Tesla installed it 3 years ago. I'm so glad I got it done. Man, prices have changed a lot in the last few years, even Tesla's price went up substantially.

My system is pretty large, originally more than I used, but if I could've done anything different it would've been to add even more panels. I get paid full price for overproduction. I almost bought 2 extra PWs about 1.5 years ago for a good price ($11,500 after rebate), looking back I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger because now I have the Cybertruck and I'm setup for powersharing to supplement my system. I'd rather put that money towards the truck that serves more than one purpose since I already have 2 PWs.

There is Tesla as installer versus Tesla as equipment supplier. They are using a local installer who may have the parts on hand and a short turn around time.
