It'd be a Mistake to Prioritize Cybertruck Deliveries to Tesla ‘Influencers’

i think having the first thousand go to "influencers" is perfectly fine. Small drop in the bucket. A stupid move to make the first units the most public ones, but fine.

However if they prioritize all deliveries based on how they favor you based on referrals or whatnot, i'd be very upset and i would not be the only one.

Nah, getting the product in the hands of influencers makes sense. And they were likely at the event and have low res numbers anyway. Targeting the people who don't even have Teslas now would be a mistake imo. Make them wait till it's perfect and let the hype beasts work out the kinks.

Edit: because if we give people who are first experiencing Tesla the truck and they have early adopter issues. Especially those who are coming from gas, they may abandon ship entirely.
Totally agree with you!

That's old school thinking. I hear you, but the "everyman" thing is dead as far as marketing. I started my own product line a few years ago and I had to get help for it to take off. So, I got an actual PR/Ad group involved and it's just not how it works anymore. They opened my eyes to a LOT. Not to let the cat out of the bag, but everything is fake. You give it to actors who pretend to be "everyman" in clips. The key is to give it to celebs and influencers that have the "everyman" persona on media platforms. Just having regular street Joe try to show it off just doesn't work. Regular Street Joe/Jen isn't working with a production team, and writing content and "takes" at a 6th grade level to drum up daily viewer engagement by the 10's of thousands.
One of the best examples what the Beats by Dre Launch during the Beijing Olympics. They basically gave them to Lebron and the team and they walked off the bus with them on… was all the marketing they needed at launch, things went through the roof. These are kind of different circumstances and brands, but the thought I putting them into influencers does make sense

These rumors are swirling about Tesla prioritizing deliveries to Tesla ‘influencers’ and certain long-time, high referral customers, as they have in the past.
...
Prioritizing by reservation number alone could be a fairer approach, reducing the risk of alienating a key demographic.
I suspect there is a VERY high correlation between earliest reservation numbers and the Tesla influencers.

When the GMC/Chevy Astro van first came out, I bought one. I was not an influencer (that term was never used at that time) but every time I took it out, I had people asking about it. From what I've seen, there are only a handful of youtubers pushing Tesla products. At least I only follow a few. As others have said, the majority of them sent in their $100 within 30 min of the announcement, just like I did. I'm sorry but I can influence as many people as these influencers without spending any time making a fool of myself online. If I get mine, and it's becoming more of an if every time I see the potential cost going up, I'm sure I'll be stopped every 5 minutes it's on the road and I'll be happy to show people the CT without asking for any "likes."

I have had my doubts as to the legitimacy of this email. And this doesn't make sense to me either. Yes, all the free advertising of selling YTr a CT first (there is one I watch that I KNOW is on here). But then again, what is going to be advertised? If you give them one of the first, especially an RC, and they have issues with it, that is going to be broadcast all over the world, and never removed. How many views will a channel get with this video title; "My new CT died/overheated/failed to.../has lousy panel gaps/seats failed/mirrors won't.../etc. I hope you get my point. This is like inviting the haters to become more infamous and giving them an even bigger platform??? Now, to sell them to a Tesla OG owner, on their 4th/5th/12th Tesla, who had a previous new model that had all those issues and they hung around while they got fixed... That is who I can see getting a jump in line if they needed it.

Let's face it: if you're an early Cybertruck recipient, you will become an influencer whether you like it or not :ROFLMAO:

There are definitely ppl on here thinking Tesla owes them something for waiting. No one made them wait or want their products. People will get their trucks eventually, not sure what the big deal is. It's a truck at the end of the day nothing more.

Even at 1/3 of the 375k units a year,
if there is ever 375K units/yr, it will be ... quite some time off

i assume people are presently concerned with where the precious few go over the next many months ahead

I just realized I've wasted 4 years of my life here. Thanks for the realty check.
I'm keeping my F-150.
Good luck everyone.

When I pick up my Cybertruck, I'll be sure to wear my white pants
