Exactly why I keep recommending all the door handle freakouts to go test drive a Tesla. If you really think there'll be no way to get out of a Tesla in an accident, then you clearly haven't driven one and seen the expert engineering that goes into them.

A better grid would know how to handle overvoltage. Because it would be built to carry it.

Building microgrids exacerbates the problem, it doesn't make it easier. Balancing the power needs of each microgrid is actually more difficult and results in more brownouts, because the microgrids cannot request additional power from outside.

And regional variation in production is the big problem that your utility is refusing to deal with - but is actually the strength of an interconnected grid.

Thing is that Rivian just had another delay. The way things are going, the CT might be ready to produce before the Rivian.

They were the favorite, but the odds of Rivian shipping first just dropped a little.

I agree with @Crissa here, Musk has already confirmed quite a bit, ship date and more-final ranges are the last couple little details which I'm concerned with. He's going to keep dribbling out little bits to keep the media hungry.

While they likely have a much better idea of ship date now, there are plenty of variables which they need to solidify before they can get a proper shipping date. Volume shipping and "When will I get my truck!!" are still big mysteries I suspect even to Tesla.

Clearly each geopolitical region has its own infrastructure challenges, so it's impractical for us to compare our experiences. I think this conversion demonstrates exactly how much the energy sector is ripe for a disruptive technology like Tesla's megapacks. Go get 'em, Elon!

Just in from Elon:

In end, we kept production design almost exactly same as show car. Just some small tweaks here & there to make it slightly better. No door handles. Car recognizes you & opens door. Having all four wheels steer is amazing for nimble handling & tight turns!

Too much tech for your typical PU truck buyer I'm afraid.

This is a neat feature, but if I get in an accident, I'd like people to be able to extract me from the car.

Four wheel steering is an awesome unexpected bonus, but the handles... not a fan.

Cars exported to Panama substitute a plastic handle attachment to the body. They are notorious for coming off in your hand. What looks like a door handle is a proxy piss poor stand-in.

Indistinguishable, North American gringo’s walk up and pull like they are back in the states - with handle in hand! That’s what competition and price constraints outside USA drive mfgrs to do.

Musk solves that problem… I’m impressed Tesla is under good and proper leadership to transition into Int’l markets seamlessly.
