The CT is too cheap. Why would you buy a long range S or a Y for $90k/$60k when you can get a $70K CT with 500 miles range? Granted some people want a car, but for pure economics Tesla is undercutting their own market.

I don't see Tesla working too hard to crank out 250,000 CT per year at current pricing unless the margin is actually higher than a S or Y. I think they will limit production to ~100,000 units per year or so or they will find a way to raise prices. Maybe the 4 wheel steering was it?

Total profits are important as well as market share, but who are they really competing against? My assumed unit # 654114 is looking sadder and sadder.
my wife could get a CT but likes the MY size. there you go why.

So long as the CT doesn't fit in the standard garage, there will be no cannibalizing's of sales, LOL. Pretty simple for Tesla, keep the CT a monster. :)
it might not fit in a small garage....but then neither would a Silverado, ram or f150. the CT isn't huge.

Rub it in good. Best of luck to you on the CANOO. Looking forward to solid specs, delivery and pricing info. Service-ablily might be important too.

One other thought here.

Maybe the plan here is the Cybertruck is the start of the whole next generation of Tesla cars. The $25k Tesla is likely to be built using the foundation Tesla lays out with the Cybertruck.

All the photos of the $25k Tesla show a slick looking hatchback that looks like it's the cousin to the Model 3. Seems to me if the Cybertruck is a success they are more likely to launch something else along these same lines. If they can make a Cybertruck for $39k, what would it cost if they make something the size of the Model Y without the massive suspension, 2 wheel steering, and modest load capacity? Just the savings in batteries alone would make a mid-sized Cybercar in the $25k range viable.
I certainly hope that's the case - honestly the CT is going to be a way bigger vehicle than I normally like driving (still getting one!). In a perfect world, I'd be able to get something about the size of my Scion xB but in Tesla Cyber style.

OMG yes. For me it would be the CyberElement. Just needs to be big enough to carry 4 people or 2 people with their bikes disassembled.

100k per year CT production is far too low. ..... that's a FUD estimate .... I'd realistically target 5k per week ( likely more since painting isn't required ) which gets you to 260k per year. Conservatively.

Musk has said he expects to produce 250k Cybertrucks or more per year.

They probably won't hit that pace until end of first year production though. We might see 100k or less during launch year, then later years it should be 250k+. Assuming start production EOY 2022, that would be 50-100k in 2023, and 250k in 2024. Quite possibly more than that.

Also, there are no crisp lines. An exact 1 year delay is unlikely. Production will start when capacity comes online.

We are pretty close to the same boat with our reservation numbers. I think with cancellations etc we still might get ours in 2024. Still a long time.

I think most of the public thought the VW bug was ugly as sin in the early days, yet look where that story went. Value can be a huge selling point!
Form follows function. Same like the Citroen 2CV
Hopefully the model 2 will have a cool unique uglyness too.
