Currently, the only two service centers that wrap for Tesla are in California. There’s no way for them to be wrapped before getting to the rail cars.
When I said “wrap” I was thinking of a temporary transportation protective wrap, not a $6k finished product wrap. Easy to confuse.

Cybertruck lead engineer claims that CT stainless has higher PREN (resistance to pitting corrosion) than 316L. This is the first "real" information that has been given about what makes the "30X" stainless on CT "special". Everyone claiming there was some magic formulation, now you have a source.
This is great corrosion insight into the Cybertruck’s mysterious “30X” by a Tesla engineer who knows about the subject.

So, if the Cybertruck’s “30X” formula has a higher PREN than marine grade 316L SS, it’s PREN is even better than the DeLorean’s 304 SS.
316L= PREN of 23.1-28.5
304= PREN of 17.5 - 20.8

Here’s a chart of the grades and PRENs:

Knowing how the DeLorean has stood the test of time, that’s great news.

I’m of the other school - while Tesla should deliver a clean vehicle, environmentally, I’d rather not generate a giant plastic baggie for the landfill. It bothers me to see brand new boats custom shrink wrapped for transport knowing all that plastic was wasteful at best, hazzardous at worst, to produce only to cut it off and send it to “recycling”. But I agree I do not want to take delivery of a dirty new vehicle. The good news is, the BACT is stainless, not painted.
Truly, if this is beyond the skill level of Tesla delivery people you would think they could find someone with restaurant kitchen cleanup experience. ?

Rail dust or industrial fallout related rust stains were clear and present upon delivery. Very easily removed using barkeepers friend as mentioned in other posts. Here are some closeups of before and after.

I think road “brake dust” is another form of these rust origins… has any of the retailers out there talked about how they get rid of this problem BEFORE they wrap them. Then next thing would be… will there be rust issues where we can’t see them like behind tge wheel flares or any other place we can’t see… not to mention… what happens when we pull off our wraps in 5 yrs…. Am I just being paranoid? I plan to wrap w PPF semi transparent at this point. Any thoughts out there? (As I wait for my VIN in next couple weeks)

Thank You! Hope the news outlets don’t create another FUD article - “Rusty Cybertrucks getting delivered to customers” instead of actually telling the truth that it’s NOT rust! :rolleyes:
It’s not rust but it could evolve into an issue right?

Not if you clean it off. It’s not rust, so CT won’t start rusting if these spots are not cleaned immediately, but probably some black residue might stay if you don’t clean it up, I guess!

Agreed… seems like everyone is jumping on this issue without understanding

i'm thinking the panel edges and the backside of the panels, just off the edges, aren't they corroding with corrosion creeping around the edges? hopefully this just isn't a thing...

A reputable auto-detailing shop will remove all contaminants from the surface before they wrap it. Many shops require a paint correction service before wrapping or ceramic coating.

Yes, this entire topic is people worrying about nothing! The Cybertruck is more corrosion resistant than marine grade 316 stainless steel.

Not sure it’s about nothing… if something can happen under the wrap… that would be bad… I get there is much less exposure to oxygen which is needed, but it’s not a no brainer yet… I prepped my Tesla for ceramic coat a Adam polish iron remover and was amazed how much iron it had from just 1 week of driving… so just trying to gain real experience and avoid guessing

Well, you asked if you were just being paranoid. I said you, and everyone else worrying about this, were worrying about nothing.

That doesn't change the fact that every car, painted or stainless steel, must be prepped if you're gonna wrap it. Because they both get iron contamination from brake discs, rail dust and other industrial contamination.

What is it about this that some people don't seem to get?

EXCUSE ME, don't come here with your facts and try to shut down this hype train! We don't care about facts. We came here to be brainwashed by everyone saying CT is doomed to failure and prone to rusting!! Lose the logic and give us more alarming words and out of context photos!!

/S ;)

I’m surprised they don’t wrap the CTs going by rail. And why would the new owner have to clean his brand new CT? The delivery prep should get all those spots removed before delivering the CT.
You think that Tesla has delivery prep? Well it does appear that some of the Cybertrucks have been prepped, but AFAIK, nothing else it.

There are a lot of people that don't want Tesla to prep a vehicle because they are going to get them done professionally and don't want to have to undo what a minimum wage porter does.

Tesla doesn't have any "minimum wage porters". Tesla should train delivery centers to prep the cars to acceptable standards. IMO, that would include removing any industrial contamination before delivery unless the customer specifically requests it not be prepped. One thing I'm very glad about is that none of my Tesla have been delivered with that awful glossy, wet look, tire sidewall goop! I dislike that stuff with a passion!

I know some people like it, and used sparingly, and with some elbow grease, it can be a nice touch, but it's generally just slathered on in an unsightly manner. It's far too easy to overdo it.
