This is not the most logical execution, so I always had my doubts… (meaning at the expense of bed space, installation.. etc)

…but i am always eager to see Teslas approach to their crazy ideas.

It was talked about and shown in this video teardown before Munroes.
Less than half full and seemingly done for safety and not pack expansion since no room for cooling and another group of cells.

Only a port.. maybe there is a missing charger/coil which needs to be installed yet.

I wasn't 100% sure if they were accurate. If memory serves someone thought their connection to the extended range pack was for a rear drive motor or something. I think the service manual came out AFTER this video so that could be checked.

I was mainly pointing out the space aspect since they talked about it and had a good video showing it.

Have to cut the fat, if Tesla can’t sell the truck why invest in future in accessories.

You can put in longer cells and still have clearance. 110mm cells (30 mm longer) would give the 40% range boost of the extender.
That sounds like a hypothesis that will never be realized. I suspect that Tesla would change their cell chemistry before changing their aspect ratio, and I doubt either would happen quickly. Conjecture aside we should talk about facts not fiction and the facts are what aspect ratio, cell chemistry, and cell count Tesla is putting into the Cybertruck today.

"Never" is a prediction, not a fact...
That's all I was speaking to.

I think if Tesla wanted to offer the Range Extender they could. But maybe demand for it isn’t as high as people think? People wanted a $40,000 CT. What we got was a $120,000, $100,000, and $80,000 CT. A range extender adds $10,000 to $20,000 on top of that. How many of those would Tesla need to sell to make it worth it for them?

It will be interesting to see if this Range Extender makes it to market. After living with a CT for a year, ~280-300 miles of real world range has been sufficient most of the time. I would probably not buy a Range Extender that cost more than $5,000.

It was offered to support the 2020 ”estimated range” BS to get buyers interested in deposits. 80% of which cancelled. 4680s were a bust.
It was never a viable option.
What will be fun is how they spin future truck extended range.…

4680s are absolutely not a "bust". I'm not sure why people can't understand that these new cells were always going to have slow, incremental improvements.

ASIDE:
You can put in longer cells and still have clearance. 110mm cells (30 mm longer) would give the 40% range boost of the extender.
Companies (LGES) are making the other larger size of 4695.

4695s would only give you 20% (x1.2) better which is not close to a RE.

An interesting world in the CUV category tho (TMY, future R2, Mach-E, EV6, Blazer/Equinox, etc x 7).

We are in for some interesting times with batteries.
"LGES said on Thursday that it will provide Rivian with its advanced 4695 cylindrical cells for over five years, with a capacity totaling 67 gigawatt-hours. The new cell type has a diameter of 46 millimeters and is 95 mm tall, the battery maker said in a press release. It will feature six times the capacity of the existing 2170 cylindrical cells. "
