I owned a detail shop for 10 years. I have owned 2 pearl white cars. Every single pearl white vehicle that came into my shop to get detailed, along with my own, always had rust dots mainly on the rear bumpers but also down the sides especially down low. They came off easily and cars that had never been detailed well, they only needed a clay bar ran over them. Now we have Ceramic coatings so these will not happen like that. When I get mine, since I am a NanoPro dealer, I'll be coating mine in Borophene coating which is the only coating on the market at this time that I know of in the ceramic coating world, made to correctly bond to bare metal like Stainless.

I’d planned to look for a mad max type rusty wrap. This will save me some $…

Just picked up my Cybertruck today. The advisor specifically mentioned the cybertrucks develop orange rust marks in the rain and that required the vehicle to be buffed out. I know I heard the story of never take out your Delorean in the rain but I just never read anything about rust and Cybertrucks. All in all smooth delivery. The first 10 min of driving, the vehicle was pulling hard to the right…I turned around and went back to the service center thinking there was an issue. They scheduled me to a different service center near where I live but after putting on some more miles the pull went away.
I took delivery here in Texas. I drove my CT in the rain on several different days now with no issues. One weekend I was on a 5 hour road trip with 3 hours of it in the rain. Once I was back to my house I just wiped it down with a beach towel. That was 5 days ago, so far no orange spots.

There is a process for stainless steel called “passivation” . This process can eliminate or reduce such spots that can occur on stainless steel for various reasons.

This process can or may have already been explored by Tesla and owners of cyber trucks..

I’m just putting the word out there so that those interested can know that there is such an option.

in a project that I worked on, our client had considered, but did not adopt a passivation process for some exterior stainless steel work. The dread spots did appear.

Here is some information on the process.

So, you still had to baby it. it's a truck. I have no intention of wiping down my truck each time it rains or snows and gets salt on it, I live in Pa, and we get all types of weather. Maybe this is why they are mainly delivering to warmer places right now. I don't know. I could spend another 6 to 8 thousand on a wrap, just more money.

Interested in the Borophene ceramic coating as DIY. Ceramic done yourself is easier than waxing imo.

I did not have to baby it, I chose to wipe it down just like any other of my cars or trucks I would have driven on that trip. To each their own on how they treat their vehicles.

You win interesting word of the day contest, had to search Borophene. Looks like a potential good option, look forward to seeing your CT done. Since you are a dealer, what's the difference between the 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 versions?

Looks like that will significantly change the sheen of the truck, wouldn't it? Looks like it's designed to be super glossy.

I don't have a problem with what you did or said, I am hearing more and more about the spots, and I am legitimately concerned.

This issue is so much all over the news. Everyday I see some random news media outlet picking this topic and trashing CT.

Hope Elon puts one of the CTs permanently at an ocean bed and installs a live feed to prove that the HFS doesn’t F** rust. :p

That would be great
Be nice if it was like the pink wall mud, that becomes white when dry.

Exactly. I have never wiped down a vehicle, let alone a truck, after driving it. Closest I've come is running it through a car wash after a particularly dirty day.

That won't end the way you think it would. First, leaving it under the water permanently doesn't do much of anything. Submerging it and then pulling it out to sit and dry won't be pretty. If you've ever been around watercraft, you'll know how crusty/flaky aluminum boats get from salt water.

That said, I'm less interested in that demonstration (it wouldn't prove anything other than to not drive your CT under the ocean?). What's not making sense to me is how rust is forming so quickly in the limited images that I've seen. More data needed.
