Tesla dropped the longer range Model S, so there's the chance they'll delay the high range Cybertruck, too.

So that makes the middle sized range most likely.

This is what you said: "Lets mention what we 100% know so far about the Cybertruck." There is nothing in the post about common sense, and those statements are not common sense; they are your opinions. Common sense reasoning is culture-wide reasoning (applies to everyone living in a culture).

Here are the specs which are still on the website after the cyber-lobotomy and can presumably be relied on making it to final. There are no models listed so this is a ā€œOne of the models will likely have itā€.

  • Up to 500 Miles range
  • 14,000 pound towing capacity
  • 3,500 pound cargo capacity
  • 0-60 in 2.9 seconds
  • 100 cubic feet of secure storage
  • Onboard power and compressed air
  • Air suspension can be raised and lowered 4 inches in either direction
  • Six seats
We also know there will be a quad motor version at launch (Musk Tweet) and 4 wheel steering on at least some models.

Most of the rest of the specs and configurations have been scrubbed.

So if the goal is to limit it to what we currently know. There it is.

First of all, some facts. A $100 fully refundable CT reservation shows interest but it does not equal ownership. It was a smart move by Tesla to assess market viability but at this point nothing is guaranteed.

As for opinions, I think the total CT reservation number is considerably higher than the actual number of serious buyers. We (wife and I) currently have 2 leased Teslas with the leases ending mid 2024. Those lease end dates work out nicely for one of the replacement vehicles to be a Cybertruck. The other will also be an EV but the manufacturer and model of the 2nd vehicle is still in question.

With current gas prices, our Tesla ownership has panned out well thus far. We are adding solar panels and Power Walls to our home this year so our cleaner energy future including EV's ownership is essentially guaranteed. My personal bias is to buy American and, the vehicle ownership decision will be based upon many factors none of which are purely brand based. That said, supporting Tesla with their sincere commitment to renewable energy solutions is a significant factor.

I'm old and comfortably retired so many of worlds "issues" will not have as great an impact on me personally, but I do have a sense of social responsibility and that will drive my support of companies like Tesla. For those of you anxiously waiting for the Cybertruck, please consider doing something now by purchasing a non ICE vehicle. Used car prices are crazy high so you can get good value for the gas guzzler and with all Tesla models getting more expensive each month, its a good time to make the move. I've owned many vehicles in my life and our relatively affordable Models 3 (SR) and Y (DM) are the best driving, most comfortable (I'm 6'5") and fun of any of our previous cars.

If you want to better understand the tech aspect of EV manufacturing, the Monroe Live YouTube channel is a terrific unbiased resource IMHO.

Shameless self promotion... lol

Your point on ICE vehicles and their current value is part of what convinced me to make the move. And in fact, since then I valued my current ICE vehicle and it's worth just a few thousand less than what I paid for it 3 years and 53K miles ago. A truly insane situation that is to be taken advantage of if possible. Now I just have to figure out how to safely sell it privately.

As an interesting side story... I was at a VW dealership recently to have my car serviced and some warranty repairs performed. I always deal with the same customer service guy, he's pretty decent, will point me at cheaper options outside of the dealer if it makes sense and is very fair. We have a good rapport and so he asked me, have you seen the new Golf R (I own the old version)? I told him yes, looks awesome, quicker, improved AWD, better cabin tech and all that... he went on to ask if I'll buy it and I said hell no., I'm buying a Tesla... the guy looked so crestfallen I actually felt bad for him. Must suck sometimes to work at a ICE manufacturer.

The Cybertruck sold a bunch of Model Ys. Mine is a year old next month and I still love it.

I'm not sure if I follow that logic... I sort of see where you are coming from the Model S refresh was released much sooner. The CT will only come out when we have 4680s in some decent volume. Plus Musk said Quad first... right?

He didn't say anything about the battery, so we don't know what their plans are. The Model S Plaid Plus was dropped, it had the highest range.

Should they start with 50k Cybertrucks or 30k Cybertrucks? That's the difference in cells required to build between the mid range and the long range version.

They should try that Corvette against a Model S Plaid... ;p

I donā€™t think Edmunds bothers to race anything against the Plaid since it would destroy everything out there aside from a few $1m+ supercars.

Also, Tesla doesnā€™t provide them with test vehicles so I doubt they have one. :ROFLMAO:

OMGā€¦ when the Plaid still won with 3 fat guys in itā€¦ holy shit.

Have you seen the drag race with the Plaid where the driver had it in reverse at launch? He reversed a little, stopped, then launched forward and still won. To be fair, it was against a Chevy truck for some bizarre reason.
