Wind noise with new OEM lightbar install

I just got the new lightbar installed and working. Super bright and should come in handy when needed.

Unfortunately, I’ve noticed a high pitched whistling coming from the area of light bar when I start going at highway speeds. I just wondered if that is too be expected or something that might be fixable either DIY or at Tesla Service. My truck was super quiet with ANC enabled.

That's pretty common with Jeeps that have light bars. I would imagine this is a bigger problem with the new mounting brackets vs the old glue only install. So you'd need to make sure anyone telling you "no it shouldn't happen" has experienced it with the new version that has the brackets rather than the glue only version.

I think this would be difficult to prevent unless the brackets were perfectly flush. You could try adding a bead of silicone caulk or something to the edges to smooth it out but no idea if that will fix it.

It’s not normal even though @JCERRN is right; hard to prevent but not impossible . Mine is dead quiet. Take it back and let them figure it out. If they tell you they can’t reproduce it, get one of these fast track return tickets and harass the shit out of them. It’s an expensive install not to get right even if it’s on Tesla’s dime.

With the new install, should there be a small gap between the lightbar and the glass?

Hard to show with camera but I was able to easily slide a piece of paper under to show.

Is that paper slid under your lightbar?

If so, that‘s absolutely not correct. There is a continuous stripe of VHB across the front, and two strips with about an inch of gap along the rear.

ETA: OP, that’s where your wind noise is coming from!!

Correct, there is supposed to be one continuous strip across the front and the back one should have a small gap where vent is on the bar (in the middle)

Haven't noticed any whistling with mine yet.

Mine is quiet at any speed. In fact, BEFORE the install, I had a screeching sound whenever there was a cross-wind at high 70+ mph speed. AFTER the install, no more! So, the light bar has made my CT quieter! Go figure.

Please. I have the OEM lightbar and it makes no additional sound on the highway or freeway - drove 4800 miles coast to coast in my cyberbeast and it is a fantastic smooth and quiet ride / better than the porsche Panamera I own or my 550 Mercedes sedan.

I also have the OEM lightbar and have zero noise coming from it with the new install protocol and speeds up to 80 mph.
