That would be something. Ford is clearly shitting their pants by reducing the price of the Lightning, even though they’re losing money either way.
Ford will only be meaningfully producing the lightning another ~18 months

not to suggest they aren’t monitoring competitors, of course they are, but to think the Lightning’s price reflects a bellwether decision regarding the CT’s pricing and availability over the next 18 months is … a stretch

it would suggest, for example, that the below Lightning price curve says … what? A year ago Ford was very worried about CT pricing, then as CT got nearer Ford got less concerned, then woke up again at the moment?

Tesla Cybertruck Cybertruck pricing hinted by Musk's comment on "expensive" F-150 Lightning (even after today's $10K price cut)? 🤔 1670484F-F19E-43B0-85F8-3C273E5F3E4C

if the quad motor, 350 mile range rumors prove to be true, you can bank on it being because its gonna be capable of selling under the $80k tax credit cap

Why lower your prices unless your vehicles weren’t selling or a competitor was about to release a new product? I think the whole EV market is slowing down outside of Tesla for various reasons.

looking at the graph, the relevant question seems to be instead “why raise your prices and then lower them”

And if you follow the Lightning closely, there are a lot of overlapping reasons that can be true

Sure, maybe supply chains are easing somewhat, but even Tesla is lowering prices to keep demand up. They just have higher margins to play with, unlike Ford that’s losing money no matter what. Ford is playing both sides though. Recently Farley said that EVs are a great second car and that they’re only good for 100-200 mile trips around town. He went on to say they’re still going to make ICE vehicles into the foreseeable future and only expects to be 50% EV by 2030.

Nobody minded when Rivian raised the price right out of the gate with the RT1,

not.

A strippo Ford Lightning Pro Dual Motor with vinyl seats and floors now sells for $50k.

It will be interesting to see what Tesla bean counters decide on for Cybertruck pricing.

And when that strippo Lightning model was released, not much more than a year ago, it was $39K

not to suggest Tesla will follow suit, but to point out that release pricing and pricing a year later aren't always the same...

My Bold prediction;

Dual Motor $39,900
Tri-Motor $49,900

Even the most die hard Tesla haters will not be able to refuse the offer.
All of the lost truck sales for Ford and GM will be catastrophic for them...Game over.
agree, but tri-motor has to be better than 350 mile range

Ford just may predict a lower priced CT, and is looking to close the gap.

Also, by 'cost cutting', they may want the market to think Tesla is reacting to Ford's price.

A touch of 'you did it Mary'.
