Holy moly, what a read.

I differ from you when it comes to Elon: I see him as captured by those moneyed interests. They're not monolith, of course, with slight divides here and there...

His friends group got slowly more and more filled with people who literally profited from being his friend. Rogan's ratings soar having Elon on. Peterson needs to stay relevant. The trolls on Twitter need someone to laugh at their jokes so willingly laugh at his, baying for attention.

I truly hope that Elon succeeds, but I don't see him as a realist when it comes to actual humans. He naively accepts in good faith people who are not acting in good faith, who aren't putting in the effort to see what is good for humanity, but what is good for themselves.

It's perfectly natural to recoil when you feel you're being misspoken about, mislead, used as at patsy. Elon's rich, visible, and gets clicks, so makes a great punching bag. But he's a real person, with feelings, and they got hurt.

The problem is what happened next, hanging out with the people who wouldn't contradict him, or need an apology when he hurt someone elses' feelings.

It makes it really hard to watch my favorite subjects, with this fight happening. And real people getting hurt.

That is one possibility. Another is that he has seen things over time, especially as he has gained more access and influence, that has changed his perspective somewhat. His stance has moved a bit away from where you are, and that makes you uncomfortable. Obviously objectively speaking, it would easier for you to conclude that he has been captured rather than freed, as a free Elon would mean it is you that is still captured.

Musk’s Cybertruck Is Almost Here. But Will Anyone Buy The ‘Ludicrous’ Vehicle?

I've been lurking here since 2019 and have been enjoying all the content and discussion. I am a previous Tesla owner, have a sub-100k reservation and am excited about the prospect of taking delivery of my Cybertruck in the near future. I was surprised no one had posted this article yet. It even features ridiculous statements from a climate advocate who claims a new electric truck isn't appealing from a climate perspective and even references this site/community.... "How well it will sell isn’t certain, but one thing is: environmentalists hate it. " ... this article is ludicrous.
When you read articles like this, it’s proof that the author isn’t subjective with the CT, but just has an anti Tesla and CT objective like so many others. I sincerely believe that once the CT goes into full production, all of those naysayers will be eating a healthy portion of humble pie, as this will prove them wrong. The media in general has lost the ability to truly report facts, and to me, most of them are the same as IRS agents. They are are despicable people.

I'd like some examples of who Elon has hurt, ex-wives aside. Obviously everyone hurts someone at times with things they say, but I can't think of any examples of anyone being hurt by Elon's companies, wages, policies, stock options, comments or anything else he's done. I don't consider hurt feelings due to a disagreement in ideals as being legitimately hurt. Nobody, especially a large public figure, can agree with everyone, so there will always be disagreements. Choosing to be hurt by someone else's statements on any issues are the fault of the one feeling hurt, not the one making the statements.

Obviously.

But he's doing things which objectively increase hate crimes against people I consider peers.

I can't do this publicly, that would violate the forum rules. But anyone googling his name plus the -phobias he's engaged with (specifically one of his children, even) and you'll get examples. You can DM me if you want specific links, to keep this from being a public argument.

Sometimes I think you might be too woke to see reality staring you in the face.

I hope that didn't hurt your feelings, it wasn't intended to but, if it did, I guess I'm like Elon in that I'm not going to apologize for truthfully telling it how I see it.

Apologies are for when you have done something you feel sorry for, not simply because someone doesn't like what you said or felt hurt. I won't spend time with anyone who demands apologies because I said something they don't agree with or they felt hurt by it. Sometimes the truth hurts, whether it's your truth or someone elses. I respect people who only apologize when they are sorry for what they have done. "Needing" an apology is a losers game. If someone doesn't want to apologize to me, I move on. Not that I would ever ask someone to apologize because that's just a silly ego game. I move on.

Claiming Elon doesn't like hanging out with people who contradict him is a made up story. He loves it when people correct him, not so much if it turns out they don't know what they are talking about. He has a long history of encouraging people to speak their minds, especially if they think he is wrong.

You don't get to the level of success Elon has achieved in many difficult businesses if you only hang out with people who say what you want to hear. I'm afraid you have been infected by false narritives of the Elon haters club. If you hear a lie enough, it almost starts to sound plausible. But you will disagree that's what's going on. That's how it works.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree, but I don't think I'll be able to convince you of that.

Two decades ago, it was very rare for a reputable publication to release "hit peices", but all publications had a certain amount of built-in bias. But you knew that going into it and it was generally pretty subtle stuff that was the result of natural human biases. News stories were generally trying to inform, not spread propoganda (at least not anything that could be easily disproven or that was not subjective).
I disagree with you. Being that I used to interface with the media quite a bit Years ago, they were not interested in truth then, or now. And when Hearst was big in the newspaper world (early 1900’s) they got busted for something known as “yellow journalism”. It was bad before that, and it’s been bad ever since then. Their job has never been to inform, it has been to get eyes on the publication and thus the advertising.

Dude, I said DM me if you wanted examples. You just used 'woke' negatively: Are you saying you're pro-discrimination? Pro-ignorance?

Of course you're not!

So don't use that word in a way that helps those who actually are pro-discrimination and pro-ignorance.

Truth is. We all thought the CyberTruck prototype was outrageous and crazy. Truth is. Most of us can’t wait for it for that reason. But the other truth is…. We haven’t even seen them in the real world yet and we’re already “normalizing” the styling in our minds. Wait until these are seen daily you’ll notice them. But will you still be amazed? I don’t know.
