After hanging around here for 2 years I think I know what groups are loudest about "deal killers":

- 7 Foot Bed Real Truck Apostles (dead ?)

- the 500 Mile Range Gang

- Must Tow 350-400 Miles (All Uphill) Posse

- The 20ft Garage Punks (looks around, throws up gang sign)

- $40k Hustlers (?‍♀ dead but don't know it ?‍♂ )

- <$80k Ballers Club

So when a post threatens any of these groups, you'd better believe there's gonna be a keyboard getting a beatdown.
Dont forget the

  • I know what MC stands for troupe
  • You just have to trust me, I know, gaggle
  • If you try to protect your armored personnel carrier in anyway, you dont truck squad
  • The CT is more expensive than the Model X, prove me wrong, clan
  • and the, no one who buys this truck will qualify for the tax credit brotherhood

Tesla can only make a few 100 of these before the batteries are exhausted.
So
Out of the 2 million reservists' 1000 will pony up $100,000 for a EvTruck.
and
The rest will have to hold off for 2 years.
10,000,000 4680 cells (how many Tesla made in the last three months) can make five thousand 200kWh batteries.

That's a bit more than a 100.

Another thing to remember about these early retail units. 4680 specs will improve over the course of the next couple of years as the cathode plant is running and as chemistry improves. We are currently at 95.15Wh/cell. It will improve to about 99.4Wh/cell then ultimately around 108Wh/cell.

As an example, let say they use a pack 216s*6p = 1296 cells:
Currently that would make usable capacity ~115kWh
At 99.4Wh that becomes 120.2kWh
At 108Wh that becomes 130.4kWh

Don't quote my efficiency but assume we get 2.87 mi/kWh with the weight of 1296 cells in the dual motor:

115kWh = 330 miles
120.2kWh = 345 miles
130.4kWh = 374 miles

Early units should be priced with this in mind as well. When you go to sell your early production cybertruck in 3-5 years, someone might be able to buy a new one with 13% more range at a lower price then what you bought new.
Your efficiency estimates seem high and your pack sizes seem low, but I like your optimistic thinking. I didn't think it over-optimistic to expect them to meet battery demand for thousands per month on Elon's timeline. Others are also committing to 4680 production.

The 2.87 mi/kWh is what the dual motor max pack Rivian is rated for. With a smaller pack, we should be able to come close to that for the base model cybertruck. The smaller pack helps with payload and efficiency. Due to the high discharge rates of the 4680s, power shouldn't be an issue.

The point was just to show how 4680 performance upgrades over time could effect range with the same number for cells.

If Tesla starts to ramp a new 4680 line every 6 months and reaches full capacity within 16 months, it should outpace the cybertruck projections. I used 1400 cells/cybertruck as a blended average. That 4th line would probably be used for Next Gen Platform and Semi. 3 lines should be enough capacity for 500k cybertrucks/yr.

There is no way the CT will get 2.8 miles/kwh. Its drag coefficient by modeling is greater than a Rivian’s.

We also don’t know if CT will use permanent magnet motors or induction. If the former, Tesla to date, hasn’t developed any motor that can dynamically disengage like Rivian’s enduro motors.

no-ones modeled the actual CT

they’ve modeled a model of a model of a csrtoon of a CT

we don’t know anything about its actual Cd
Screw the tape measure, I’m waiting for someone to show up with a 3D scanner.

Well then, please direct me to the threads that are approved or not approved for posting too. ;)

As much as many don't agree with or like it, @TacoTuesday's thread is no different than 100's of threads started over the years here. Same guessing and speculation or intended misinformation that can be maddening but can only be avoided by your decision to block or avoid such threads.

The difference is, now we have a delivery date. And instead of quieting down, its like these types of threads have exploded 100x. Its like they know soon they won't be able to speculate anymore, and are trying to do as much speculating now as possible.

@Mini2nut is just as guilty, with his reply above and cute "Dual Motor reservation holders" threads that ive been trying to ignore.. Not interesting in the slightest, they are infuriating. But i'll go eat some breakfast and maybe feel better.
