I'd be totally down for filling the Frunk with batteries to extend range but per Elon on another thread it's a toolbox sized battery in the bed. Could be a weight and safety thing?

Wouldn’t it be cool if it was actually on self-propelled wheels, could load itself up the ramp and plop itself in the front of the bed, preventing bilateral hernias by the owner.

of course it would be much easier if it was simply a software unlocking of the existing battery!

I was really really disappointed with the 340 mile range – really was hoping for longer so hoping even a bit more that the range extender is something that’s actually practical. Time will tell!

@cvalue13 put a theory that it goes in the frunk instead. I'll call that plausible.
at this point I’d side with those getting info from folks on-site that it goes in bed (and is $16K)

this truck generally, but with accessories in particular, has a lot of segmented knowledge internal to Tesla (eg there are very few people, if any, that know about all of both the truck and all of the accessories)

Calling it now: this range extender will be indefinitely postponed until everyone forgets about it. Remember the Plaid+?

Besides, I'm confident that almost no one here could actually lift that into the bed of a truck. And an even smaller number could do it without injuring themselves.

I'm getting the vibe that this accessory is designed to be installed once and stay in. Removable would of course be more useful, despite the PITA, but my money's on put it in once and done.

Kind of a cheat mode to keep the price under the tax credit cap, but it's a logical way to go about it.

Wording makes it sound like it's not easily removable.
