Does anyone have any specs on the weight of the battery extender? I've seen comments as low as 140kg (308 lbs) and don't see how that is possible. 40kWh or so will have to weigh a lot more than that. Powerwalls are around 250lbs per 13kkWh.

it was a delivery event. Delivery.
Sorry, that just doesn't fly. If it were just a delivery event just invite the people being delivered to and don't make a big f-ing deal about it being the event of the year. The world has waited 4 years for this day and Elon himself built it up, so why not spend another hour and have people like Drew come up and talk about the batteries, Franz talk about the design, ... and really tell the story. Most of it has come out in the hours after the event anyway.

Even if it did come to market, and that is far from certain, it would have a very small market in the real world.

Part of me wonders if Tesla is not claiming 2025 availability to give new owners time to put the 340 mile range version through it's paces without the range extender and familiarize them with how Supercharging fits into their trips out of their local area, knowing that most people will realize the range extender cost more money and takes up more room than it's worth.
That also gives them time to improve the 4680 cell/pack so that the range extender isn't even necessary.

Expectations were changed over the course of nearly half a decade…if you failed to keep up that’s on you…
You are completely wrong. One or two people started making claims that the range, etc. would be lower and those statement only in the last couple of months. But for the remainder of the past 4 years no one in the inner/upper circle at Tesla has made any statements about range reduction, payload reduction, or towing capacity reduction. That, and with all of the up and down with Tesla prices no one could have reliably predicted what Tesla would come out with for Cybertruck pricing, and Tesla never said anything either. I might add that most people on this forum are watching everything Cybertruck very closely.

The range extender is freaking awesome. It is like beating physics and chemical limits 90% of the time. The hacking opportunities are endless with a high amp connection directly to the main pack.

For the naysayers wining about not getting 500 miles out of the gate I say Tesla probably had 1000 engineers trying to get to 500 miles of range without replicating the 10000 lb Hummer.

This is the best they came up with.
... for the time being ...

Sounds like you weren’t paying close enough attention. That’s on you. Most of the intelligent people were fully expecting specs & pricing very close to what was announced.

So will a pair of snow skis fit in the bed with the range extender? Is their room on top of it and still close the vault?
Looks like the top of the extender is finished like the bed floor, and there is quite a bit of space above it before you reach the bed cover. So you don’t truly lose 1/3 of the bed, you just lose 1/3 of a consistent flat bed floor.

people were invited to a delivery event where they could tour the factory. trucks were delivered. as you noted, the specs etc were updated online after the delivery event.

And it WAS a delivery event! But no mention how many vehicles in what time span, if reservation numbers will be honored acccording to dual, or tri, and now beast. He also said NOTHING about a range extender. lamest event, ever

Well I guess I have to bow to your superior intellect. Thank you so much for the lesson in humility.

Interesting. In my line of work you say what you mean and what you intend and you deliver exactly that or more. In my experience there are lines of work where that is not the case, and they routinely refer to themselves as intelligent. I had no right to think that Elon Musk could deliver what he said he would deliver but I won’t make that mistake again.

Today, at price $79K+ there are not "MILLIONS of people who would buy this Vehicle (340mi dual-motor AWD or 342mi tri-motor AWD )".

Even in 2025/2026 when/(IF) the cheaper single motor rear drive for $61K arrives there are not "MILLIONS of people who would buy this Vehicle". All three trims totaled together might not even break 80K per year.

Ohh shit. For once in his life, Jim Cramer might have been right when he said Cybertruck would be lucky to sell 50K units !!!

Aligning yourself with that Clown dismissed any credibility you might have had….?

We’ll mark this post and revisit in 3 years and see how ignorant your statement (“All three trims might not even break 80K per year”) looks in retrospect…
My prediction above is if in 2025 the price of the bottom trim is $61,000 for a single motor RWD 250mi and with 2026 estimated average price for all units sold of all trims about $70,000.

2019 Nov reveal price of single motor RWD 240mi trim was $40K.
If in 2026 Tesla lowers the price of bottom trim to $52,000 or lower then I expect huge yearly sales (much higher than 80K units).
