Wow. Hopefully just an update away. Both my wife and I really like the auto door opener feature on our 2018 Teslas as we approach the garage. Seems like a little thing but not having to fumble around for the button on the screen is really nice and I am annoyed to not have that on my Lightning.
I sort of doubt that it's an update, the best case we could hope for is that eventually an accessory can be purchased. Having said that, with the number of things that just don't work on delivery, and are coming with an update eventually hopefully maybe... anything is possible.

3/Y require: https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-3_y-automatic-garage-opener

Works great, mobile install, auto open / close, etc....

Could have the hardware to connect to in the truck and don't yet have the software enabled....push an update, put unit for sale on Tesla store, customer bears majority of the cost...everyone happy - that's my guess!

Only reason I think they'd eliminate it is because the % of take rate is very small and therefore not even worth the cost of the connector installed on every car/truck. That or My Q offered a larger piece of the subscription so Tesla decided to make it the only option.

and spying on your rear passengers
Parents with could really appreciate this aspect and there are even add on (over the top) versions to give a better view (wider) of the kiddos.

Tesla even left a little cover there to fill the hole after you remove the mirror!
I design and invent a lot of stuff. if you can accurately measure that shape I can quickly draw up a model in CAD that can be used to 3D print an insert. (Which I will freely share and happy to mail you a few 3D prints to get the tolerance correct.) that way when my Cybertruck comes, I have it ready for my garage opener!

The insert could be hollow and hold the internals of a garage door opener, touch light, etc. hopefully it’s deep enough to sit flush.

is that cover plate ferrous? (Magnet attached) If so, the insert could have a little magnet so you could just pop it on and off.

Help me understand the MyQ subscription. I have It on my phone with no subscription. On other Teslas are you saying to integrate into the Tesla UI that their is a subscription fee?

Interesting on my R1T it is a simple button push on the steering wheel. What I have in the garage continues to tell me stay happy at home lol.

I had an R1T for a while and I guess I missed that. I thought you had to click the icon on the main screen to open the garage? I was not happy with that and really missed how the garage automatically opened with my Model S without having to do anything. I'm kind of bummed with that the Cybertruck doesn't appear to have it.

In my $16k base, no power widows even, Nissan frontier I wired up a spare remote to the high beams wire in the engine bay. So when I pull into the driveway I just flash the high beams.

It was an update about 6 months ago. Excellent makes it super easy to use and go between multiple doors. Overall Rivian updates have been great. I assumed Tesla is the same way with monthly updates but maybe I'm wrong?

I HUD capable rear view mirror (w/ keystone correction) would be slick in its place. Just display it directly on the top of the windscreen if doable. I would like an always on rear view mirror that isn't mucking up my main screen. Perhaps even if the windscreen is not exactly doable, a slightly opaque vinyl sticker would be all that is needed to project onto without being hideous looking.

yeah, I sincerely hope the engineers were forward looking and made it possible to retrofit digital display mirrors.

Cool. I can't wait till I remove my side and rear view mirrors from my Cyberbeast :geek:
Yup. I'm also looking really hard at the BAW. Can you say Rain-X? I'll keep it under the rear seat with required tools to add in a pinch but it just doesn't rain often where I live and the heat+UV here destroys wipers.

Well, they were looking forward, but I'm not sure about retrofitting a mirror.

Their forward looking guidance is to rip al the mirrors out. Thet are only for humans.

Just thinking, drive by wire has been made to be a big deal. Odds are that 75% of the push for it is just to make it easier to rip the steering wheel out. I mean the computer has been doing drive by wire for years.
