Did you clean the BKF off with something after? Soap and water or denatured alcohol?

Just want to be sure you aren't leaving any on the surface (you aren't supposed to let it sit)

Barkeeper's Friend says to rinse with water.

And yeah, I second that. We need to know if it's inherent in the metal or if it's just surface marring from some alkaline contaminant.

Cleaned it off with denatured alcohol, looks great now that it's dried out a bit.

I'll keep an eye on it overnight.

Dude, that stuff is alcohol with poison in it. I don't know how it's legal; it's worse to breathe than alcohol, still flammable, and leaves a toxic residue.

Also a bit overkill for something water soluble ^-^;

I'm about to go try Chemical Guys Iron Decon spray where I cleaned already, to see if it pulls additional corrosion that I can't see.

According to the MSDS data sheet, IronX contains:

• ammonium mercaptoacetate
• Alcohols, C10-16, ethoxylated, sulfates, sodium salts
• piperonal

Seems OK for the non-metallic surfaces, but "ammonium" sounds bad for stainless steel.

Chemical Guys Iron Decon spray was applied and left to work. No purple residue or anything indicating any remaining contamination was present.

Wonder if Tesla is aware of how to clean their own CT when it arrives at a service center for delivery. Barkeeper's Friend to clean it off, water to rinse, and windex to restore the shine seems to be pretty straightforward, and no iron contamination left behind that I could get to present with the Iron Decon spray.

I received my AWD Cybertruck on February 1, 2024. Throughout the LA rain, I noticed the corrosion was forming on the metal like other people have noted, so I decided to start documenting it and bringing it to Tesla's attention. I figured it was already on their radar, but I want it attended to under the warranty. So I made a service appointment for this morning.

The truck was taken to the back and the exterior was washed, just to verify the corrosion was not specks of dirt.

Speaking with someone at the facility, they told me 1) they have a procedure/guidance for how to fix it, but 2) they don't have the tools on hand, nor have they done this repair before. They documented the corrosion, and told me they'll give me a call next month when the tools have arrived and they can perform the service/repair.

The Cybertruck has 381 miles on it, and has spent much of the 11 days in my custody parked in front of my house. Cold weather, rain, and some direct sunlight later, I attached a few photos of the corrosion spots and a video. Seems like it's much more prominent on the top metal that rises above the truck bed moreso than anywhere else, but the spots are definitely everywhere in the metal.

Pardon my gross hands and fading nail polish...

We tested BKF More (liquid), then Windex, which neutralizes the BFK, it removed a couple spots like this. These look a bit darker, but worth a try and won't compromise anything Tesla is going to do.

I am curious as to what their process will be, if you find out, please share!

I definitely will. I want to see what Tesla intends as their "final fix" before I try the ProtectaClear. However, the BKF "Soft" (liquid), then water, then Windex cleaned it up really well.

I used BKF for the spots on my cybertruck and it seemed like at first they went away but I am noticing they’re still there now the next day, really weird.

Have you tried an application of Bar keeper friend polish and spray afterwards with windex?

I do not want to wash it all the time, that's why I picked SS. It is made up of metals in it, chrome is one that helps stop corrosion. Maybe they put less in so they could bend without cracking. Just a thought. Just a thought.

There is a long-proven solution to prevent corrosion on vehicles like this...

....it's called....

....PAINT

Seriously. If they want to maintain the look, and don't have quite the right formulation down on the HFS, then spray on 3 coats of clearcoat, no color layers, before shipping and call it a day.
