If you have solar and want time shifting it makes sense to eventually add at least one powerwall to the PowerShare setup. I have solar and it’s a bummer it’ll never contribute in a blackout unless I add a powerwall.

Hmm

Totally agree, and really I'm now confused about the value proposition for the backup only option.

To me it makes very little sense to pay thousands for the 3v gateway install if you already have solar but no battery - just spend a bit more and get the Powerwall and it gives you the grid-forming/load shifting etc, and supposedly seamlessly integrates with Cybertruck Powershare (pending OTA update as per Tesla's usual).

The value add is as follows -
1)Connects a 123kwh battery which is equivalent to 10 powerwalls in capacity
2) for extended blackouts, drive your truck to a working SC and recharge your house.

Major value in PowerShare. Just to get everything you also want at least one powerwall to unlock solar contribution and time shifting

Frankly there is also a case to be made that you can do some DIY load shifting now by getting switched to a Time of Use plan, charging overnight, then when you hit peak rates, pull the main breaker to force PS to come online... But I'm sure things like this will end up driving utility company restrictions or permit/PTO headaches.

Even supercharging rates are quite a bit cheaper than peak PG&E rates on TOU plans. And if you happen to get free charging at work, then consider that another perk!

I just naively thought this functionality would be automatic even for those without Powerwalls (and without actually hitting the main breaker every time!)

yah you could hit the breaker to force CT to kick in and power things during prime electricity. But they wanted to keep the CT off the grid to simplify UL and permitting. Powerwall does all the grid functionality.

So basically it's equivalent to a diesel generator with autocut switch. That can get enhanced if you also add a powerwall to enable grid functionality.

Agree. If you have solar and can afford a bit more, put install costs towards PW. Verify prior your NEM won’t change. My recent PW addition didn’t.

-As of ‘23 iI believe PW can also qualify for the Residential Clean Energy Credit, 30%
-Items you’d mentioned (grid-forming/load shifting etc) to recover some costs.
-No downtime w outages
-Vehicle doesn’t need to be there constantly for backup or GF/LS/…
-solar can recharge PW, extending backup.
-Can still use CT as additional backup,
-Additional home value-buyers won’t necessarily need to own a Tesla for PW functionality.
-Whatever effect daily charge/discharge cycles are, they’ll against the PW vs CT. People already seem to be complaining about distance. Probably easier to add another battery to a degraded PW setup than CT.

Would be nice if Beast FS credit could be used towards installation, while adding PW.

What I'm kind of bummed about after watching the video, he said if the AC is more than 105 amps LRA then it cannot be on the backup circuit.
My old AC dataplate says 115 amps LRA.
In the summers here with the monsoons the power goes out sometimes few times a month. I would have loved for the Cybertruck to be able to supply power to the house with the AC.

A soft-start should lower the initial current, but IDK how much…

Sounds like a lawsuit is coming Tesla's way. The Powershare equipment was included in the purchase of the Cybertruck and now if you don't use their installer they give you 6 months or 1 year of supercharging which is not equivalent to the value of the equipment. I told Tesla in the survey that I was moving in a couple of years and would not be installing the equipment at my current residence and I still got approved. I had a Model 3 for over five years and barely used supercharging since I had a wall charger installed.
Does anyone know if we can had Powershare installed at another home we own that is about 20 mi from address that is on my current account? Should be same installer either way, I would assume. I have not finished config of CT, but should I use address think Powershare will be installed or can it be changed after config?

I installed a Micro-Air Easy Start on our 4 ton home heat pump so that I could include the HVAC to the back up sub panel on our solar system (12.5 kw panels with 39 kWh storage/2 inverters.
The soft start lowered the lra from 95 to about 45 amps (data plate max is 105 amps).
As long as your inverter(s) and battery can support that, you should be fine-recommend measuring start up max draw before and after soft start installation to verify ymmv NOT ADVISE.

I got my truck Feb 22nd. Was told to reach out to approved contractors on thier website. I did that and still waiting on the contractor I approved to give me a timeline. If you have solar and a powerwall you won't get any equipment mentioned in purchase of truck (V3 Gateway, Wall Charger) but you will get a 700 dollar credit to buy a Wall charger and contractor does the rest.

@Cyberturck 1974
Thanks for your information. I have solar already and going to upgrade the batter from LG to Tesla Powerball via Sunrun later next month.
So how do I reach their website. I don't the email about that.

Thanks,
Jacky
