Tones of V4 Supercharger Working In Progress

Just throwing some thoughts I had into this debate. I just got back from a trip visiting friends in a rural town for several days. The closest supercharger was 30 minutes from their house at highway rest stop and I had to use a 120v outlet while I was there. Thankfully I was able to park in their garage so didn't use much power maintaining the battery temp. We didn't do a lot of driving, just out to eat around town, but it was still a struggle to keep the truck charged. On average I was just barely maintaining the charge level. One day we did a short trip 60 miles each way and I had to stop at the supercharger 30 minutes from town since my charge level was down in the twenties.

I was able to make it work but it was a constant thought in the back of my mind wondering if I'd have enough juice.
Back at my house I drive more each day but don't worry at all because I can use the mobile charger at 240v in my garage.

Yeah, Sentry and our phone proximity chews through 12kWh/day. That's over 8 hours of 120V charging.

I know I could save money by adjusting my home's thermostat 5 degrees, but I'd rather not.

All that was with sentry off while at their house too. 120v is just so slow.

Just got a ChargePoint Home Flex NACS edition installed. It was free from my utility company! $599.00 value! It’s outstanding… has the button that opens the charging door. IMHO it’s nicer than the Tesla charger and you can set up multiple times for schedules. It’s the same app used for when you use the commercial charge points.

The best part is I am pushing 48A on this. I can charge rapidly now. No more “that trip to the grocery store will be a 7 hour charge, so I had better take the Ford.” It’s so nice to charge up in 35 minutes instead of multiple hours.

- Since Tesla won the standards battle, isn't NACS going to be deployed for all charging stations eventually?

3 mins away from home. I am thinking not to install home wall charger any more.

would identify all these v4 pedestals + v3 charging cabinets at 'v3.5' or ' *v4' so when the v4 ped. + v4 (350+ kW) come along people could tell the difference.

There is a lot of talk about the limitation of the handle and cable recently. Kyle/OoS has done a variety of testing. Branden (below) is in the charger/charing industry.

I agree, I’m even closer to a SC but will certainly have it plugged in at home nightly (after the 12 months of free supercharging).

Legitimate is the key word for the CCS adapter. If you are talking about certified by Tesla, no.

It is expected that most pedestals will get NACS plugs, but that still may be a long time away.
The Nissan Leaf is still only using the CHAdeMO connector.
There are a lot of vehicles that are using CCS1

But it isn't going to be an overnight, or even a year-long transition. Some pedestals may never get converted, just eventually die in-place. When working with power like this, just swapping things out isn't always an option. And in many locations, there are a lot of lower capacity pedestals that should be upgraded from 75kW to 250kW to remain viable.

To the best of my understanding there is not a CCS adapter made today that fits the Cybertruck without requiring some extra

It seems like most charging companies have said they will be installing NACS cables/plugs on their units in the future. There are a couple EVgo units in Salt Lake that already have them.

For my particular use case and out of abundance of caution, I will wait until there is a legitimate CCS/CHADemo adapter for CT.

Until then, it's Tesla Superchargers and home wall charger.

You 100% can charge from an Electrify America unit on the Cybertruck. I have done it.

Charging on an Electrify America CCS unit right now. Arrived at 40% with the battery preconditioned by putting in a Supercharger as the destination, driving to the Supercharger and then to the Electrify America unit

Saw it hit 162 kW when I first started the charge then quickly went down to 142 kW. Will report the full charge curve when I get home and can snag the data from TeslaMate.

Are you using EVject NACS-to-NACS? Looks like a good use of this adapter to clear the Cybertruck fender. I have a few rural Utah CCS chargers I would like to be able to use with Cybertruck.

If you absolutely need it today, it may be worth the money.

But if you don't need it, only want it, then I suggest waiting. One of the BIGGEST reasons is for 800V support.
