Supposedly, Tesla is going to bring out something called a "Range Extender". Rumor is it is a software thing. Cost unknown. Really?
look at Tesla website for the extender, which is a physical pack, that goes in the bed of the truck and currently costs $16K

GM figured out the double stack battery for the hummer. I am sure they will use the same platform with the Silverado. Tesla should have and my bet would be they will go that route in the future. Tesla sometimes fights what the world wants and often compromises. A 40+ kw battery in the bed of the truck is not it.
It is the weight!

With 1300lb payload and 8500lb empty weight, I would rather carry a battery pack when I need.

So I saw these on a different car website and they tried to show how Rivian was so much more efficient....but it's not. If you compare the Rivian on the 20s vs the Dual CT, the Tesla barely edges it out and if the Tri is that close to the Dual CT it will be much better than Rivian Quad. Or am I missing something?

But you won’t be able to take it off when you want to. It will be tied to the cooling system and high voltage. No way it’s a user removable item. It’s also likely to weigh 600 to 700 lbs. It’s like moving a small safe.

The initial design was with a double later pack, but there are a few reason they likely changed that

1 - Size reduction to fit in peoples garages: Once they made it shorter, the had to make the height lower, else you screw with the proportions and it would look weirder. So you either eat into head room or go to a single layer pack

2 - Single layer is good enough: With a single layer they got way over the 300+ miles on the Dual Motor version, meaning the likely most popular model is now easier and cheaper to manufacture

I'm not saying I'm not sad also there is no 500 miles version (ignoring extender)

Would be cool for the under rear seat area to have cells also for a bit more range

Let's see.

I cannot find the Range Extender on the Tesla site. I did find a C&D article about it. The RE drops into the bed of the CT. It is a battery pack. It is removable.

It is my understanding Tesla will be transitioning to a new battery design next year with significantly higher charge density.

So, in digging through the Tesla web site to find Range Extender, I discovered there are a lot of nifty accessories you can order for CT. I am definitely going to get the clear coat. On the home page, click on Shop, scroll down to CT accessories and click on that.

You seem correct based on this:

20" All-terrain tires
301 mi for Cybertruck Tri-Motor AWD
318 mi for Cybertruck Dual-Motor AWD

18" All-season tires (not available yet)
• 320 mi for Cybertruck Tri-Motor AWD
• 340 mi for Cybertruck Dual-Motor AWD

I posted this info when I got the foundation invite. The invite was the first time I saw the range listed for 20” vs the 18”. Also the folks at the Tesla shop were saying the dual on 20” would get the 340 range. Felt a little misleading to be honest. Wonder how funny looking those 18” are going to look haha.

True on the little misleading comment.

I have all 4 of those numbers in the charts on this thread:

GMC Hummer EV Pickup Tri-Motor (22″)351 Wh/mi608 Wh/mi
Wow a big difference between 50 and 70 mph. Stats for 60 mph would be nice to know. 50 mph too slow for highway driving but 70 mph cuts down the range (I would imagine) quite a bit.

50 mph is for city or country highway, 70mph is for freeway.
