On the Frunk discussion and whether size matters, I share my experience with my Lightning as one point of reference. I keep a ton of stuff (tools, charging cables and adapters, extension cord, fasteners, ….) in there and they take half the space of my Frunk. I use the other half for anything valuable on a trip like camera equipment or my wife’s purse that may provide a reason for someone to break in if they are visible. This along with ginormous backseat area allows me to keep the bed exposed with no cover and use the bed a bit more freely.

I don’t use the Frunk to put groceries in. Normal day to day stuff usually go to the back seat area. There are multiple reasons for this:
  • Rear door is completely manual and not motorized. It opens and closes much faster.
  • Rear door operation seem more robust for repetitive use. If Frunk gets confused and does not close completely or properly, truck movement will be restricted.
  • Opening the Frunk in public may start a longer conversation with strangers than I can afford on a quick errands run.
  • I have access to stuff in the back seat while I am driving but not to the Frunk.
I would say that your demand for the Frunk size will grow to match the supply. If you have never had a big Frunk, you may not feel like you are missing much and you will be OK. The enclosed bed of CT will also makes smaller Frunk less of an issue. If aerodynamics of CT is significantly better than Lightning because of the smaller Frunk and you spend a lot of time on the highway, it may be a tradeoff you will be happy with.

you're missing out! the frunk's bag hooks and cargo divider make for spill free organization, and all of it is easier to reach from the forward position.

that said, you're describing what's obviously the case: different people have different use cases

my back seat is often full of children, so groceries, travel bags, etc., thankfully have a new home.

before i had kids, my back seat was full of dogs - same result!

personally, having driven full sized trucks for 30 years, for many peoople the Frunk is an absolute game-changer to the viability of a truck for many people.

the CT's vault offers some of this utility. but im guessing not a lot of overlap.

yup. It is just me and my wife. Often folding the back seats and using the truck like a cargo van.

It appears that Tesla is advertising that a wrapped CT can be anything the customer wants, just provide a .jpg. Will this be a Tesla option or will any shop be able to print/cut the sections of PPF as shown?
A business would prefer a custom wrap with their logo/info.

This should put the disillusioned 'midsize-truck' masses to rest

Surprised at how small the frunk space is, looks like the air suspension components take up most of the space.

Also, this makes me wish the CT had real door handles
I called it on the frunk. I said it would be very small and someone said as long as they can get their golf clubs in there. Well it looks like that may even be a tight fit. Can anyone confirm if what we are seeing is a Tesla drive unit? Or is this heat pump and other control equipment? If this isn’t a drive unit. The CT with the front motors may have no drunk at all.

It'll be interesting to see it all trimmed out etc but yeah it's looking like the smallest frunk of the electric trucks we've seen so far.
I like the f150 wrap lol!
I think a larger frunk would have been more useful than a longer bed. For anyone that hasnt had a truck, everything in the bed moves around. And that vault in the vault is not easily accesible. You will more or less have to crawl into the be to get into it.

The stamped stiffening section that attaches to the underside of the frunk hood must be steel or aluminum.

Careful about mentioning non stainless steel parts around here. Some folks still are holding on to the idea that the entire truck is an origami of stainless steel exterior panels only. I am sure they are painted steel. Looking at that ribbing that you are pointing out, my best guess would be that the hood is not 3mm stainless and was actually lightened but i could be wrong. I have my calipers ready.

what's visible is all thermal management

they are sitting directly over where motors / suspension would be/are

Major bummer if the frunk is as small as it seems..
The frunk is extremely valuable. An additional lockable and very convenient area to get to compared to a truck bed.
At some point I feel that Tesla is following more form than function for the sake of it cause that doesn't look functional..
Man I hope I'm wrong!

Here is an image of the Model S dual drive unit. With those long suspension arms on the CT and that large casting, I really cant imagine how they could fit a dual up front. Either way, it will be a feat of engineering.

Would agree! If it powered, I could see myself being like "sure why not". But I still gotta pull out my phone to actuate that. Not complaining.. just thinking.
If it just has a shock strut I dont really understand why people need it to be motorized. If it unlocks when i am close to it and i can reach a small concealed release then that is more than enough. If i had to get out my phone it would be incredibly annoying.

personally unaware what motors, or how many, they are likely planning to use of front!

but whats visible in this thread's frunk photos is all thermal - not to mention well above the drivelines of the front tires
