Anything with glue or adhesive is really a silly idea on these trucks. The heat in sun light warming it up. The cold in winter. The high wind lift at speed. This is a stupid design. They need a bolt on option. They will all fall off eventually.

Need advice. My factory OEM Lightbar just flew off my truck while driving on the highway. Luckily no one behind was injured nor did it cause any damage to any vehicles behind me but the Lightbar is pieces across the highway. In addition, where the harness feeds into the car on the driver side, the plastic rail broke into pieces. I was able to “snap” into place. The Lightbar was installed in February of this year.

Question? Is this a Tesla responsibility as the adhesive didn’t work? Or is this an insurance claim?

If Tesla responsibility, do I set up service through the app and explain details there? Or do I pay a visit to service center. The service center that installed was Springfield, NJ SC.

This sucks!!!
Of course it’s Tesla‘s responsibility.

Another one bites the dust..Didn't even last a month in the Arizona heat.

This is the worst design and unacceptable.

Waiting on version 2. This light bar is crap. It looked horrible sticking to the windscreen. The ugly and un- even adhesive bead was visible due to the huge gap underneath the light bar. The wind noise was loud. It should have a molding between the glass and the frame of the light bar help with the wind noise and prevent the air from going underneath the light bar and prying it off the windshield.

Hoping new design has brackets.

My Tesla service center said they’ll have new parts in August. There is a redesign. Hopefully it has brackets.

If this isn’t damaged, can I buy it from you? Just tell them it flew off and got crushed by 18 wheeler ?

Thanks for the heads up on the information from your service center. I reposted your report to my thread : "Breaking: Light Bar Installs on Hold Confirmed by Tesla" since I got the same message from my service center.

seriously though. If anyone has one of these in working condition I’d also be willing to gamble that I can do a better job adhering it than Tesla. I’d buy it.

I laugh that Tesla even attempt such stupidity. How using adhesive was a good idea I will never know. SMH!

I got mine installed with the new adhesive last month. No brackets (sorry to report). Nervous about taking it through a car wash and it hasn't been that hot here in MO since I got it installed. Unless you drive 100mph it seems plenty bright though.

OP here.

Tesla replaced my light bar with lightbar 2.0 supposedly. Have an appointment with new approved adhesive next Monday. Does service still NOT terminate the connection or we as owners have to do it? TIA

Correct. Took about 10 minutes.

Kind of silly if you ask me. It's a Tesla accessory, controlled by the OEM screen. Not sure what the liability concern is for the light but I am certain it isn't changed just because the owner makes the electrical connection.

It's not legal per FMVSS, so Tesla as a manufacturer can't fully install it.
Aftermarket is out of FMVSS purview.
