Guys we have an earlier post on this where we acknowledge, like the other large truck batt and charging requirements of Hummer EV, Lightening, REV, 80 amps will be necessary. Tesla Gen 1 Wall Connector provided 80 amps but has been discontinued. I think this will be back as a gen 4.
If you want to be ready, run 100 or 125 amp circuit from the main to where the WC will be setup, leave 6 foot slack loop, or to an sub panel. Regardless, this will be a hardwire connection.
Think we are in a holding pattern until Tesla provides the CT charging spec.
Worst case CT 200kw pack will require 20 hours at 48 amps to charge, vs approx 10 hours for 80.
Highly unlikely Tesla will release a faster charger for home use. There is little to no reason for it. 48 amps (actual) is plenty for overnight charging for all but the most extreme cases.

A lot (maybe a majority?) of homes would struggle with adding an extra 100 amp service which further limits how useful it would be.

To clarify my need for this information. All the above is great info to know! I have owned 4 RV’s, 2 were diesel coaches that required 50 amp hook ups. I am now out of the RV ownership. During my last RV garage remodel, I installed 2 50/30/20 amp electric boxes that bring in the 220 wires and I have ample breaker amps in my breaker box. One electric box installed on each end of the 50’ garage. My grandson, when visiting, with his Tesla model 3 would plug into the front box with a Tesla reducer plug in, to charge his vehicle. Usually took awhile for a full charge.

I plan on parking the CT in my RV garage (when I get it🤷🏼‍♂️) and utilizing one of these boxes. I want to have it converted with a charging system produced by Tesla that will be recommended for the CT?! Not sure I need it to charge real fast but need it to be efficient to handle the CT and any friend that might be visiting and need a charge on their EV!
Just didn’t know what was out there to order and have installed by my electrician, before the truck arrives (hopefully by end of 2024?!)

From what I’ve read so far, there may be a system available for the CyberTruck!? In the near future? Where would I look for charging systems by Tesla to purchase?

Thanks again!
The existing charger will add about 25 miles per hour of charging to the Cybertruck. With 10 hours charging, that’s 250 miles per day. Do you frequently drive more than 250 miles on back to back days coming home each time? (Or 100+ miles towing)

Some people might need more than what the current charger offers, I suspect it’s not more than a handful though.

I disagree.. I suspect that ev range will GREATLY increase within the next 3-5 years as newer battery tech comes out and people are going to want to be able to fully charge overnight... yes that might be an expensive install of the charger but that is a one time expense.

necessary?

a number of folks derate their Ford Charge a Station Pro to less than 80, or use other chargers that aren’t at 80

needs are different (either at what the house can handle in a cost effective way, or what sort of charging someone needs)

I agree! This is what I’ll probably do……I get the reasoning!

my reference to house house was more about the panel space/service of a home

not everyone can throw an 80A charger in their house cost-effectively, on balance with their *needs*

I have decided to set up a mini playground for kids in the bed while I am waiting for / charging through Superchargers. Discharging the kids and charging the mobile AC at the same time. What a wonderful husband~My wife will be very happy when I am away from her and bringing kids along~

Everyone decides their own CT charging need and resource they want to have
Make your own decision
But
Like others agree, all of the big trucks release their own brand home charger when they release a vehicle that can USE it
The top trim CT with the max pack will need more than 48 amps
I predict there will be a gen 4/80 amp

This thread is merely, what is the advice on the CT forums app, for CT home charging
Advice, get ready for 80 amps

We will know soon

It doesn’t matter what the range of the EV is. What matters is how much power you consume on a nightly basis. The number of people who need 250 miles of range every single night is exceedingly small. The people who need that kind of charging know they need it and will buy it.

Unless you are driving for 5+ hours day after day, there is simply no point to paying extra for more than what the current chargers offer.

I’m not suggesting nobody needs more, simply that the people who need more are uncommon and can self-identify as being high mileage drivers.

Remember that circuits are rated for intermittent use. For continuous use, such as with an EVSE, you're limited to 80% of that capacity. A 60A circuit can only charge at 48A.

Personally I think even 30A would be fine for me.
