TFL Says the Cybertruck Will Flop

Yes, it is possible ( ok, so scratch resistant) but

1. cold-rolled 30x stainless is harder to scratch than the low quality stainless steel used in kitchen sinks or tables.

2. cold-rolled 30x stainless steel is much more scratch resistant than automotive exterior paint.
3. Most "keys" are made of much softer metal than the CT's stainless steel so if anything, a typical house/car key will be the one losing metal. Paint, even with color coat, is soft when compared to stainless steel. It's easy to scratch the color coat, much harder to get down to the paint. Knives would be better for scratching to the paint level. Either way, I bet scratches in the CT SS could be buffed out with no problem and I expect to get a few caused by loading and unloading different things. It gives it character.

Basically, they believe Tesla hasn't said or shown anything to believe. They think Tesla won't have high CT sales because, reasons. They also think Ford will make their Lightning 150k goal, and the CT is too late. šŸ™„

I'll say it again-When the CT comes out, so many doubters will be eating crow you'll think it's the new chicken. I can't wait to hear what they say when the inevitable finally happens.
Never heard of TFL and frankly don't care what they have to contribute!

304 and 308 are standard kitchen alloys, 316 is used in marine or other corrosive location. I fabricate with these and other materials. All of which I can "scratch" with my fingernails, no deeper than surface finish. Take a dish table that has been in service for 20 years, same material without abuse, and it will be harder than unused material. It is similar to shot peening a set of ICE rods to make them stronger.

...Because you're not using cold-rolled hardened?

I thought that was obvious and did not require clarification. I was challenging the idea that kitchen stainless is cheap or low grade while pointing out that it will work harden similarly. For further clarification I am specifically talking about 3xx not 4xx.

*edit* keep replying slightly off the point, it is how you sound...

Soon after the initial deliveries, there'll be scores of car-mag cover-articles, YouTube clips, and owner reports on the CT. Those reports will determine whether it's Tesla's biggest flop or biggest bonanza.

I predict the latter. If so, there'll be few cancellations, because the early reservers who changed their mind can make a fast buck by selling to the impatient.

Ehh, at least their video is short.

Ugh. Hyperinflation? Are these guys millennials? Last year's inflation wasn't higher than '73-'82.

The truck needs a custom camper? So does the Hummer, Rivian, Silverado.

The truck 'has a small bed'? Compared to what? What?

'You can't reach into it!' ...Then they show an image of Franz walking along side it, if it was lowered, he could reach right in. Geez. 'For a gas can'. Gas can? Why would you have a gas can?

*sigh* At least I can still understand them at 2x speed.

...Yes, Elon said they stopped counting at over several hundred thousand orders. They missed that he said more than 250k. The best guess from the spreadsheet is 1 million, not 3 million, guys. They made a fallacy by arguing that extreme number.

...Why won't the truck be sold to a labor trade? *sigh*

'They'll buy these other trucks!' ...There are more reservations for Cybertruck than Fords, and Ford isn't going to fulfill this list for in their best guess two years.

These guys are ignoring the hundreds of thousands of Model Y that Tesla is delivering while Ford is delivering not even a tenth of that.

...I don't want email spam.

You can't buy a Rivian or Ford or Hummer. They're 'sold out'. So no, I can't go and buy these other trucks.

'Folding stainless can't be cheaper'. ...Have they not noticed that the price of stainless is much, much less than it used to be? You can get stainless anything, and it doesn't really raise the price much.

'It's not a car'. Do they even drive trucks? Of course you care. It has to stay on the road.

...Why do you need door handles again? *sigh*

They keep saying that they're certain of these things while using the fact that we don't know the exact specs.

...They are right that some guys will find features as 'silly'. I remember once being told to take the colors out of a database entry UI because 'that's more expensive!' ...As if the pixels on their VGA Windows PCs were going to cost more if I used them instead of black and white?

I still think their 'trucks must be serious and this is unusable small toy' is so... How small-minded.

Bleah. What a waste of a half hour.

thanks for saving me the time. maybe you can sue them for wasting yours.

Iā€˜m sure there will be lots of coverage in auto-mags and on YouTube. Iā€™m equally sure most of the big names will trash it hard. All these rags get their money from auto-industry advertising. They arenā€™t posting super-favorable reviews on the Cybertruck, particularly not if they are pitted against legacy companies that keep their lights on.

I predict lots of articles bashing the shape, bashing the unibody/ exoskeleton, bashing the ride, etc etc.

I predict the latter. If so, there'll be few cancellations, because the early reservers who changed their mind can make a fast buck by selling to the impatient.
I think people who have Cybertruck reservations will ignore the media and buy them anyhow. Eventually weā€™ll hit critical mass and enough trucks will be out there that the comments by the media will be drown out by on the ground observation. Hard to buy too deep into the FUD when your neighbor has one and it is just better all around.

TFL is just shouting from the legacy auto fringe cheap seats, because they are actually afraid of the Cybertruck or anything Tesla. Sort of like hyenas being afraid of lions but still hooping and yelping. I can think of both some fun and much more appropriate names for their "TFL" acronym!

TFL is widely respected and done a lot on EVs including Rivian, Ford and Tesla. So not sure where thisā€fearā€ is coming from.

Their tests and summaries seem very fair and unbiased.
