No, you are saying that Tesla will act like any other money-grubbing business, but they won't. They do not adjust prices to balance demand. They only adjust prices if their costs change. So it makes no sense to you which suggests to me that you are in that camp or at least believe that that camp does things the right way. And by that camp, if not obvious, I mean those for whom profit drives everything. Tesla has a vision for the world and it trumps profit to a large degree.

only paritally true.. they establish a price they want to sale at and maintain it.. UNTIL inventory starts to back up.. THEN they lower the price/add incentives.

so they DO adjust based on demand just generally only adjusting downward.

Yes, I agree with that. I don’t think it’s necessarily volume. I would focus it more on total revenue.
So to your point, if batteries are a constraint and a mid range version generates more revenue than a long range because of more units/revenue , that would make sense
the goal is to move towards electric vehicles... I tend to agree they are going to do the highest trim they can build at the max speed the factory can go.. so if they can't sell every vehicle they can build with tri motors.. then they will build 2 etc..

the goal is to get all they can build sold and onto the street.

I was not addressing what Tesla does to incentivize sales. I was addressing your comments about Tesla increasing prices when demand is high and supply is low. Tesla sells every car they make so they do not have to change prices; they just need to make more cars. They cannot increase the number of cars they can make any faster than they are.

  1. Demand is locked in. There is already a long line.
  2. Changes to that line would reflect permanent damage to the reputation of the product.
  3. First impressions matter.

Your speculation makes no sense. They can't fiddle with the prices without pissing off a million people, or launching a thousand articles about how Cybertruck is a plaything for the rich, a scam, unprofitable, and a flop.

They will have to fiddle with the prices, but changing the price for those in line is unprecedented for Tesla.

-Crissa
That's the thing: Tesla fiddles with the pricing all the time! How many pissed-off existing Tesla customers did you see when Tesla dropped their prices by up to 15% just earlier this year?

Tesla has played around with their pricing in order to match supply with demand.

I think they will launch the Cybertruck prices in line with, or slightly higher, than what they had indicated. So if you have a reservation, hopefully, we get to enjoy the lower prices.

So those are the first impressions. When they change/adjust prices to match demand, those are no longer the first impression. Why would Tesla leave money on the table...?? They are not a charity and that money could be redirected towards building more new factories.

It is 5 years after the Model 3 launch, and I still regularly hear people complaints that the $35k Model 3 “never happened” even on this forum.

Tesla actually shipped quite a fee Model 3s for $35k and because it wasn’t high profile enough or first out the door or ??? Something, people still bitch about it 5+ years later.

Changing things up like this has long term repetitional impact.

But none of those angry customers were in line. They were people who'd bought and waited or bought on the used market. They already had their cars.

Why would Tesla leave money on the table?

Because the idea is to sell as many BEVs as possible. Damage to their reputation hurts that goal.

Next big milestones:
- First Cybertruck built in Austin sitting outside of GigaTexas
- First time to see multiple CTs outside GigaTexas
- Invitation to the handover event.
- Video of Cybertruck doing truck stuff - towing, offroading, hauling crap in the bed
- Change to website to allow configuration/pricing
- First of many in-depth review of the Cybertruck including walk-around and driving
- Notification to finalize pricing
- Roadtrip to pick up my Cybertruck (either at GigaTexas if allowed or Kansas City... fkn Nebraska won't allow direct sales...)
- Seeing my Cybertruck in my driveway and garage

:D

And eventually... maybe many years from now... seeing my wife look on my Cybertruck without a hint of disgust... perhaps even with love.

Actually, I would like to see them repeat the CT/F150 tug-of-war video, but this time with an F150 Lightning and a production version CT...

That's a fair point.

Let's see how it all plays out! The suspense is killing me... LOL.

And yet all the headline will say Tesla has misguided customers by saying the bed is 6'6" but that is only for a few inches from the bottom. Elon should be jailed.

gawd help us

if Tesla wants to appear serious to serious truck people, I hope they don’t repeat that dumb stunt

Both vehicles have more than enough power / torque to drag the other one around like a rag doll if the other one loses traction

So if you’re dying to know which truck is heavier or has bigger/grippier tires, you could just look at the spec sheets

or if you simply have to see one pull the other, just let 5-10PSI out of the tires and throw 1,000lb of sand in the bed and there’s your “winner”

both the Lightning and the CT have far more hp, torque, and traction control technology than an F650 dually

guess who wins in a “tow battle” with an F650?

The one that has 6 tires that are 47” tall and 18” wide, and weighs 9,200lbs empty

I want to see one come off the line, and be delivered to a CUSTOMER (not an employee)

Everything before then is noise.

I'll slow pitch this one here, I just wanna see a partially built Cybertruck in Texas.

Not a production corpse for tooling config, a half built Cybertruck.
Fun fact, I've seen this.
