I'm guessing that minimum price for Cybertruck will be right around $50K. How about you? Let's see who can come close, especially for actual prices at the time when deliveries are fairly "common" and real, and not just for any first delivery event. Much higher, like $90K perhaps?
I’m thinking Tesla will start with the tri-motor variant first and deck it out with all of the bells and whistles. In my opinion (just to stave off all of the fanboys, not that this will stop them), I think the cost will be very high, like Hummer EV high. Maybe somewhere around $100K. This is for the early adopters/willing to pay anything/want to drive something no one else has crowd. It will act as a halo vehicle driving customers that can’t afford it to Tesla’s other models.

Once they see how many reservations drop off and increase production, THEN they’ll release the dual-motor variant for $79,900 (just under the qualification for the $7,500 rebate). They don’t want to release this model alongside the tri-motor, because it will cannibalize it.

The single-motor $40K variant will be dropped. Just like Ford and GM raised their prices and/or dropped their low-end pickup models. Even Elon hinted at the Cybertruck being expensive to make. Unless he’s lying to throw everyone off (this has happened before).

I would be exceptionally surprised. Every customer that drops a reservation is a dissatisfied customer.. .as a rule of thumb in sales you have to make 10 customers extremely happy for everyone you upset to break even. I do NOT think Tesla wants to upset that many customers.

IMHO they will release the tri and dual motors first.. then in a very short time introduce the quad motor. However in less than 3 months we should know for sure!

I'll play. I love this game.

Dual motor long range 400 mile truck for about $65k in mid September. Launch model.

Shortly after, a tri motor will happen with a larger range, near 500 miles.. It's $85k.

In late 2024 Tesla will drop a dual motor standard range truck for $49k. It'll have 260 miles.

It's not all about range, motors are cool though. Range is too. But... The science behind the BMS/ 4680 and how quickly it'll charge will make it more appealing.

Do you wanna wait an hour for 320 mile competitors to charge? Or 12 minutes for 250 miles in a Cybertruck?
I would love this. 400mi is the sweet spot for me with only around town towing and shorter road trips. I've always said $60-65k DM 325-350mi, but this sounds better :D

I'm curious how much a 500mi variant would cost or if it would be delayed based on how the 4680 MY have performed

Yeah I want a quad, but we'll see how things turn out in a couple years

I was going to respond to your post more in-depth, but I am just tired of this $100K price tag discussion about the Cybertruck. Maybe this will occur in fairy tale land, but not in reality. This truck is not being tailored to the rich! As well, it does not align with Tesla's mission statement, or the goal to make it affordable (which is NOT impossible).

I want to be wrong, but…

Straight from Elon Musk’s mouth to your ears:

“It's going to be hard to make [it] affordable because it is a new car, a new manufacturing method.”

Note that Musk had originally said in 2019 that it will start at $39,000. That appears increasingly unrealistic in the initial years of production.

"We don't just need to ramp up production, but we also need to improve the production cost efficiency, which is going to be also a very hard thing. But I'd say a quarter million a year is a reasonable guess," he argued.

He did not rule out Tesla producing more than 250,000 units of Cybertruck per year. This figure could even be doubled.

"It might be 500,000. I don't know but we'll make as many as people want and can afford," he said, warning that the Cybertruck may not be affordable because of the manufacturing cost.

Ah, I love these pricing threads. It gets all of the fanboys worked up, myself included. I guess we’re just going to ignore what Elon said at the shareholders meeting in May?

I like it

but I’ll eat my hat if they’re delivering anything mid-September

happily

Absolutely no one has sold 250,000 vehicles costing $100,000 each, ever.

Elon said it would be "hard", not "impossible".

It is hard to produce the 3/Y at a profit, yet they figured out how to do it.

That said, I am in the "people will be disappointed" camp. If they can produce a 3 motor, 200 kWh battery vehicle for less than $80k, I will be shocked. If they release a two motor, 100 kWh model, it is possible to get within 10k or 15k of the model Y. Maybe. But range will be poor and the performance will be disappointing. At least the price will be closer to what many are hoping for.

all correct

and also, Tesla itself in the past has sold initially only $100K versions of new vehicle platforms in limited numbers, and only later offered sufficient numbers of lower priced trims so as to achieve eg 250,000/yr production.

all the above can be true at once

who the hell knows with the CT!

What vehicle did they offer a 100k version and then sell 250k with a cheaper one?
