What vehicle did they offer a 100k version and then sell 250k with a cheaper one?
no, you’re right

I suppose what I meant is if they offered a $100K version and that’s all they offered, Gus is right they won’t sell 250K a year. But if they offer a $100K version first, it doesn’t mean they can’t later roll out a $50K version in large numbers - in which case they might sell 250K

And they do have a history of offering first eg a $130k+ version and then later began to deliver in earnest down-range versions in the $70K range. That’s a big spread.

So there’s precedent for the notion of offering a eg $100K CT version then later a 50% cheaper version.

That said, no, I don’t know that there’s any precedent for later offering a 50% cheaper version, and then actually producing the cheap version in large quantities.

the possible reasons for that cut both ways. You could say “there’s just no market for an $85K Model X,” or “Tesla doesn’t intend to sell many Model X’s at $85K”

Which is why, at the end of the day I don’t have any position on what the CT rollout of pricing and models will be - in part because Tesla has a history of pulling the many different levers at their disposal.

Doesn’t tell us anything if they offer a $100K and a $50K model, if Tesla doesn’t plan to often press “print” one end of the range.

I guess my issue with the notion of a $100k price point is that it doesn't make sense. Nothing about what the Cybertruck is screams "$100k". And it's weird to start that high and have your CEO tell you they plan on making 350k/year. I mean, he's damn near hinting that there's going to be a cheap model. Sub $60k, since that's the price you'd need to be at to sell that many. I understand going $20k above that to get those people that want it first, but there's only 40-50k of those (I'm probably being generous). But, this could just be me projecting my own needs as anything above $80k prices me out. And really, if I was smarter, I'd prefer that number to be $60k, but the IRA limit is too big to ignore and Tesla has a clear defined history of pricing there vehicles right where they need to be in order to maximize orders. I really believe their going to do everything in their power to stay under $80k. I think we'll only see two models. One for $79k and one for $59k.

As long as its a quad motor with 500+ miles of range and every option, I’m 100% fine with $115k. The value drops by $10k to me per drive unit or 50 miles of range, so it its a tri with 400 miles of range for example, im not interested in keeping one of my orders for myself if its more than $85k

I don’t understand anything being weird about that

Ford sells a few thousand Limited trim F150s a year at $95K+. They sell tens of thousands of XLs at $35K

I bet there will be a lot of disappointed people when the Cybertruck pricing and options are released.

Cybertruck engineer estimates are 200 kWh needed to go 500 miles.
That is 145.8 kWh to go 100 miles @ 60 MPH over a very modest 1% grade pulling a small trailer (below video).

Stop reposting this and stop saying it was a Cybertruck engineer. Both are false.

I thought 4WS is good for right turning on parking lots, is it not?
Yea, I think some people need that more than others. To me I'd be fine without it.
It would keep the price down. Rivian and Ford don't have it so I'm sure they want to be competitive in price in the end With those 2 companies.

Would it actually keep the price down? By putting it every vehicle, they would enjoy the economies of scale, and reduce manufacturing complexity.

Agreed. Musk sounds like a man pricing it at $80k, max.
I’m not saying that Tesla will copy Ford’s pricing structure in any way, but Ford used to have an entry level F-150 Lightning for just under $40K back in 2021. Now that entry level vehicle costs just under $60K (a $20K increase in 2 years). The top of the line Platinum trim costs upwards of $90K.

I think the CyberTruck will come in two variants, just like Tesla’s other high-end vehicles (Model S and Model X). There will be a tri-motor AWD and a dual-motor AWD. No single-drive model yet, if ever. Pricing will be $90K-$100K for tri-motor and $70K-$80K for dual-motor.

I'm going to go out on a limb and put this WAG out there for long term prices.
$39,990 single-motor.
$49,900 dual-motor.
$69,900 tri-motor.
It's just a wild ass guess based on nothing I've ever heard or seen.
Elon said that the early order holders pricing will be honored, only new orders will be affected.
I ordered a 7K FSD with my tri-motors, $69,990 will be due on delivery with 7,500 IRS and 2000 CA refund, and $2,500 or dumping an ICE car I own, which means, cost 57,990 then 7K for FSD totaling $64,990 + Tax. Awesome. Delivery DEC. 2024 soonest.
