But that would cost Tesla basically the same, so it wouldn't help the price. It would just increase the complexity.

Tesla usually does make models focused on the triad of coat-range-performance. But in this case, reducing performance doesn't really help range or cost.

I don't think they'll go with a single pack, it is cheaper, but it wouldn't satisfy the performance people because they want to tow. And tow needs batteries.
I agree. It isn’t important to me that they begin with the e Dual/300 as long as they have a Dual or Tri 500 when my number comes up

Maldonado, I do not know where you get the idea that the dual is the most popular trim. My understanding was that it was evenly split between dual and tri.
It's varied, but the Dual always had more reservations than the Tri. Single varied from 15-5%; and Tri varied from 35-40%, and Dual got the remainder, always the most.

Not only was that while interest rates were way lower. But, also it was people not having to put their money where their mouth is. It is really easy to put up $100 (refundable) and say you want that biggest baddest truck. When it comes to actually configuring and signing on the dotted line for that most expensive vehicle, I would think the Tri motor reservations will have a higher drop-out rate than the Dual motor's.

I actually have a reservation for the Dual which I made before I had gotten my MY. Thats when I realized that 300 of range was not really going to cut it wit the 80/20 charging and the heat here in florida which is giving me another 15% range hit . So the plan is to reconfig to the Tri (or Dual?) 500. I'd take anything over 400 but I am not going to take whats available if it doesn't have the range i need.

I though about getting another reservation but they had stopped asking you to choose a configuration on the reservation page so I figured everyone will get a chance to reconfig later. The actual early registrations mean nothing ( other then the FSD price holding)

Maybe this is the most productive, confusion-clearing way of thinking about all this:

In terms of previously-understood model nomenclature, here’s the only one of those CyberTruck model being released on Nov. 30

90C5BEFC-249A-4E4F-8D47-686BB17F245E.jpeg

additionally, as an unexpected ‘bonus’, that exact same singular model comes in a ‘performance’ configuration that will mean it’s even FASTER than expected

it’s only coincidental that this ‘performance’ trim of the “Dual Motor” model utilizes a third motor to accomplish this speed. (Which causes confusion around the 4 years of conditioning to think of any CT with a third motor to be an entirely different model, with entirely different specs across the board.)

Framed by expectations set from the unveil, Tesla is not on Nov 30 releasing two of the three models described in 2019.

So for those hoping for one of those two models that aren’t releasing on Nov 30, you should be focused on hoping that in addition to describing the model they are releasing, they also say something about their plans with respect to the ‘other’ models
I think just rip off the bandaid and throw out the "concept specs". Tell customers what will be available based on today's product and not the future.

Once they gather some cybertruck fleet data and continue working on cell energy density, they will determine the next variant to be produced. If the macro environment sails full blast into a shit storm, we could see a 250 mile cybertruck before a 500 mile. If you want a 500 mile EV truck, you have no options currently. Best you can get is a Max pack R1T for $89k at 410 miles. Its not like they will lose business within the next 24 months due to not having a 500 mile truck. Once OEMs start production of their EV trucks, Tesla can announce their response and plan to deliver within "2 weeks".

That's in how you drive, tho, not the hardware.

No, I'm talking about battery size. I'd rather have a dual motor with a larger battery pack and thus more range than a tri-motor with more performance but less range.

While I'd love to have more speed *and* more range, if I have to sacrifice one metric it would be speed. Range is what matters to me and a whole bunch of other folks here.

...Why would Tesla increase complexity and sell a truck with their big battery without the best price they can get for that battery?

The Performance model needs the biggest battery they're making to perform.

Unless they only have the one battery size, and then it doesn't matter at all.

But this is why they matched the bigger battery to the Tri Motor originally.
