My boss said he has on older model S and you can do a lot on the driver display. But when he test drove a new one they had nerfed the driver display and it barely does anything.
That is curious. Thx. I can rotate between a few things on either side of the 'road display'.

That is very interesting and curious. A minute ago, I just went out to my X to take this picture right from my eyes viewing angle. This is exactly what I see. I literally see the whole thing in my normal driving. I simply adjusted my steering wheel up/down and forward/backward long ago. It is at a very comfortable height for me for road trips and around town driving. You can also see it doesn't block my view out front as the top of the steering wheel is the end point of the dash that I see. It was very ergonomically well-engineered. I'm ~5'11".
Adjustable steering wheels aren''t really intended to be adjust for your viewing pleasure.
Where I set mine, the wheel often is directly over the speedometer. I've driven a lot of rental in the last 20 years and just about everyone is problematic for me.

But then again, I've got a Model 3 and a Model Y and soon to have Cybertruck, I'm happy.

That is odd to me. The engineers designed them to be ergonomic for both cases (viewing and comfort). Seems like that would be designer criteria 101 for them. In all my decades of driving, I don't recall owning or driving a car that I had any real problem with for both at the same time.

They started adjustability just as a get in and out of the car thing.
They then allowed finer control, mainly for the size of a person and seat position.
You also have to remember that legacy wheels are a lot larger than today's wheels.

But a comfortable driving position for the arms is the most important factor.

I'm not sure how you would even do "both at the same time".

It's a problem that is different to different people.

But I honestly hate displays behind a steering wheel. Especially when you have to start hitting buttons on it.

A lot has changed over the years and especially in the science of ergonomics.

The angle of the steering wheel relative to the drivers face,
the size of the instrument panel,
the shape of the instrument panel (see above),
the size of the steering wheel,
the amount it can go up and down,
the amount it can go in and out,
All relative to the 95th percentile (url example).

My model X (and my prev Ford Expedition, Explorer, Volt, etc) allowed me to see the instructment cluster
AND comfortable hold the steering wheel on long and short drives.
On many road trips I take, I can easily rest my arm where I can hold the bottom of the steering wheel. The Tesla engineers did a perfect job to accommodate both in my case.
It is so strange to me to think they would design for one or the other.
Ok, no biggie.

Not to interrupt the sidetrack discussion, but do we have any data on homelink? It is a must have for me. Also nfw on paying a subscription fee for myq.

Right - not paying Chamberlain for them to keep finding new ways to make me pay more for something the others offer for free.
It would be surprising for Cybertruck to not offer Homelink.

Are they still doing geofencing to open the garage door automatically as you get close to home? My Model S had that and I really missed not having that on the Rivian. I couldn't believe that they made you find and tap an icon on the display to open the garage.

I apologize for my sidetrack. I thought it would be a one and done post.

1) I am with you guys on NOT wanting to pay for a subscription.

2) I found a MyQ compatibility table that seemed pretty extensive.

https://suretyhome.com/wp-content/u...e-Door-Opener-Compatibility-List-040414-2.pdf

MyQ compatibility page with dropdown boxes:
https://www.myq.com/app/myq-compatibility

3) Saw this video (suggest starting at 4:55).

It makes some points.
* Homelink $350 and 10 year plan of MyQ $299 (ie. ~$50 cheaper)
* If you have more than 1 Telsa then the price is the same
* Works driving forward (Tesla homelink IR points 'forward') or backing in. GeoFenced.
* It has other features that tell you if your garage door is open or closed.

With my wifey's new Y we made the switch from Homelink to MyQ.

I'm a software engineer and cringe at having everything "internet connected" but gotta say the MyQ seems to work better than Homelink.

The MyQ hardware for 2 garage doors was around $50 and the subscription for 10 years is the same as buying the Homelink upgrade for 1 car.

I have a MyQ garage door opener and using HomeLink which works fine. The only downside is that the HomeLink RF signal is a toggle signal, so if the door is already open when I return home, it'll start closing (which is mildly annoying but potentially dangerous) if I don't tap cancel in time.

If I close the garage door using the MyQ app, the opener beeps and flashes for 10 seconds before it starts to close. I understand it's for safety (since you can use this method anywhere in the world). If you subscribe to MyQ on your Tesla, does this 10-second delay with flashing and beeping still occur? Or does Tesla have some arrangement so it can confirm that it's safely near (generally within eyesight of) the garage door?

I too hate subscriptions, aside from the money, the biggest reason is what happens when the company closes? Or bought up and the product line discontinued?

Agree. MyQ is owned by Chamberlain, subscribe with confidence! They should outlast your car.
