It's interesting seeing the drastic disparity in perceptions and opinions when it comes to the Cybertruck. Perhaps the most ingenious marketing tactic by the master mind, maybe just a actualization of Elon's childhood cyberpunk dream. I can go on about why I personally chose the Cybertruck compared to the plethora of alternatives in the $100k-$130K price range. I'm curious what your reason is for choosing the Cybertruck.

I drive a vehicle until the wheels fall off. Current vehicle is a 2000 Ford F-150 Lariat extended cab I bought new 24 years ago. It served me well, has been all across the country, meets my needs, but looks like hell after 20 years living outside in the Texas sun.

I want to keep the utility I have for working around the place, helping others out, and going camping/SCUBA diving, but want something electric. The extended cab of the F-150 Lariat was all I could get back in 2000, but always wanted a full rear seat. The stainless body of the Cybertruck is what pushed me over the edge in November of 2019 - I will never need to worry about the clear coat becoming brittle and flaking off in the Texas sun - followed by the paint underneath.

After four years of waiting, it appears I may have up to another year before I see my new truck. I just need to keep the old girl working for another year...RN11308

For me, I like the Tesla ecosystem. I come from a Model 3 I had for the last 5+ years. Before the Model 3 I was a Toyota person with a Tacoma and 4runners. I like having a truck in the household for those rare times I need a truck to haul things. Plus I think it will be a great road trip vehicle, but this is to be seen. I may have to get the battery extender, but at least I have the option to extend the range in the future if needed.
I also like the fact of no paint to worry about scratches and it's made out of hard freaking steel so door ding shouldn't be an issue either.

Because I've been car jacked before and I want to drive a tank, which is impractical and probably illegal. This is the only next best thing.
You got carjacked?? Goddamn!

I mean I got “carjacked” once but it turns out it was just two sloppy drunk college students who mistook my M3 for their Uber as I pulled into an 7-11 after a football game.

In fairness, for some reason their giant foam hand did look like a gun to me…

And yes, I did take them home anyway.

Fun thread seeing other members opinions!

For me it's mainly:
  • Tesla software: I've owned a Model 3 for a few years now and when I hop into our 2019 Rav4 it's like going back decades in software refinement. I'm a tech aficionado so I value good software. Also, I've seen how traditional OEMS struggle with software bugs. They may be good with many parts of car manufacturing but having buggy/laggy software can ruin the whole experience.
  • FSD: seeing how FSD v.12 is evolving (wholemarsblog videos) makes me extremely excited to try it on my CT. I did not buy it on my model 3 because I was planning on using my CT as my main vehicle for a long while. My Model 3 is going to become the second vehicle (girlfriends') and we did not need two vehicles with FSD.
  • Tesla service: even though we hear bad experiences online, I've only had good experience with our local service center. They went above and beyond with the little maintenance I had to get done.
  • 4 wheel steering + steer-by-wire: from what I've seen/read, having those 2 things on a larger vehicle is a godsend.
  • Bed practicality: never owned a truck. We need to use the trailer everytime we have to move big/dirty stuff around. We have major house renovations coming in the next few years so having a pickup truck is gonna come in handy.
  • Stainless exterior: we live in the north where corrosion is a thing.

I traded my 2002 Dodge Ram to buy my first Model S. Have missed the utility of being able to transport large items and home landscaping materials. I could never go back to an ICE vehicle. Tesla has the best onboard software. Cybertruck is the only truck option I would consider.

Pretty simple. Passed on purchasing multiple tesla powerwalls in order to have essentially a mobile powerwall that can be used to power my home in the event of an outage. The fact that it’s a vehicle is just a plus for me .

  • I live close to the ocean, so rust-free is very appealing
  • It's a tesla (charging, better software, good batteries, best EVs in general)
  • It can go off-roading as much as I need (friends w/ Model 3 and Y's don't go up the hills I'd use it on)
  • There will be a ton on the roads so parts will be easy to find when it starts falling apart
  • All the cool tech stuff (48V, steer by wire, software mini-me on the display)
  • dat turning radius
  • Can carry sofas, fridges, yard work/house maintenance stuff, stuff for long weekends, etc
  • Doggo friendly :)
  • Can run heat/AC and play movies without running an ICE engine (I like to take lunch breaks in my car)
  • Pretty cool that it's fast
  • Cheaper than a Rivian (hopefully), and less gimmicky
  • Can fit 5 people comfortably (backseat of Tacoma is a terrible experience)
  • Should be a decent enough camping vehicle with some add-ons, especially if Autopilot becomes a real thing
  • At this point I've hyped it up to all my family and friends to the point where I'm basically committed
