The removal continues! This time, we looked into removing the door panel. In all honesty, I was working on the mirror plate cover and I dropped the piece inside the door panel so I was forced to remove it. But there's always a "steel" lining.

The panel is actually in two pieces. Multiple clips remove the top, but it's aggressive. I recommend using an air pump to release the clips. Once you remove the top panel, there are three 8mm to remove. There are two connectors which are most likely the lights. Once you remove the top panel and bolts, you use the air pump to release all the clips (there's a lot). Comparatively, it's much harder than any other models I've removed. You'll reveal the speaker, window regulator, controller, and sensors. Be careful! The inner steel is insanely sharp. Put my hand right in there and sliced my hand like butter. The plastic plate is held by 8mm all around the perimeter. Behind is the window regulator bracket.

I plan on removing the rest of the car and doing a video series at some point. We typically do removals when we first receive the car out of curiosity. Let me know if you have any questions!

I wonder if taking the doors off the CT will ever be a thing like with Jeep or Bronco owners.

I dropped the side mirror plate into the door too during install. I gave up on that and after a month of hearing it rattle in the door on closing, I finally was able to fish it out with a metal hanger, a head lamp and a half hour of shear patience. It terrifies me to disassemble a door like this, for fear of creating rattles, creaks, ticks, and the like. I didn’t want to give the SC an opportunity to screw it up either. Good luck getting it all perfectly back together!

Well, you inspired me and so long as one is careful, getting the door panels off isn't all that hard. Unfortunately the rattle I had in the door was behind the large plastic panel and I had to take the window glass out in order to get that panel out of the way.

It was getting dark and my wife was getting impatient providing a second set of hands so I didn't get any pictures, but if anyone else comes across this thread due to a rattle when you shut the door, the issue I had is there is a brace that looks to be adhered to the exterior door panel with some kind of glue and that glue had failed. I ended up putting some felt tape on the inside of the door skin where the bracket met the exterior door skin/panel and that seems to have resolved it. I'll keep my service appointment and let Tesla look at it if they want to, but at least the door doesn't sound like it's falling apart when I shut it now.
I know my adhesive on the panel has failed as well. Can you point out on this photo where you put the felt tape?
I will eventually take it upon myself to "fix" my rattle.

Yep, the circled part is what you're hearing rattle if it's the same issue I had. Unless things have changed, there was a strip of butyl tape put between that bracket and the outer door skin, but it had failed. If you have butyl tape, you can replace it so the bracket is adhered to the outer door skin. I only had felt tape on me, so I put that in just to get it to be quiet until I was able to get in for service to fix it properly.

Just be careful with that door interior. Lots of sharp edges and it's a bit of a bear to get into.

Thank you! Looking at all the resources online; it seems so tedious to remove everything. My SC said they couldn't "recreate the rattle". Total bullsh!t
Did you have to remove the glass as well?

I have multiple doors with this issue ☹

Yea, I had to remove the glass from the one door I had issues with. Pretty surprising they can't reproduce the issue if it's the same thing I had going on. It was a distinct metal on metal sound every time I shut the door and it was not subtle.

I do have some squeak/creak type noise on just about every door on my truck, but that is noticeably different from the internal bracket coming loose.

They know the rattle is there...I showed them the rattle when I dropped it off. Close the door or tap the panel and it vibrates/rattles, so simple.
But its just bad service from them.

I did tell them not to replace the door if that's the only way to fix it, maybe that's why they brushed me off.

Was removing and re-installing the glass tricky? I really want to do this myself.

As with all things, it really depends on your comfort level with taking things apart. There used to be a service bulletin on this, but I'm not finding it now. I've also seen some people reporting Tesla's answer to this is to just replace the door entirely, so if you aren't wanting to go that route and they aren't willing to fix it, self repair is about all you're left with.

If you do decide to do this yourself, I would advise having a second person to grab the glass and lift it out of the door once you have freed it. I think there were also some videos on YouTube showing how to take the door apart, so it may be worth a search on that.
