I got a quote from an electrician today to install the PowerShare Gateway and UWC in the amount of $3165. It's a relatively easy whole house backup installation with everything installed on the exterior of the house. I'm debating whether to proceed with the installation or not. There reasons for and against it in my situation. Apparently, if your house qualifies for PowerShare installation but you decide not to go ahead with it, there's no compensation from Tesla (for example, free Supercharging). Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone qualified for PowerShare installation, received a quote, and decided not to install? Did you get anything from Tesla as a substitute for PowerShare?

I just received my quote yesterday and I will be declining the installation. I was quoted $12K for the install to include permitting, electrical panel upgrade, bypass switch for my dryer, and running the line from the panel to the garage. This is an insane quote, and not worth it in my opinion. I asked the installer about the credits from Tesla, and he stated that I would receive $1,400 split between two checks about two weeks after I decline the quote (potentially Tesla shop credits?). Not sure about the validity of that. While I am on PG&E we don't lose power that often or for very long, I can always run an extension cord to my fridge/freezers and whatever else I may NEED to back up.

My panel does need an upgrade, as it is over 30 y/o, and is of a type recognized to be outdated and potentially a fire risk. But the amount that my quote is allotted towards that is stupid. I can get someone to do the panel replacement for a quarter of the quoted cost.

I submitted for PS but didn't qualify due to already having Powerwalls/solar.

I got an email from Tesla saying I'll get a one-time use $700 voucher for the Tesla Shop (I have AWD, Beasts get $1,400) within two weeks of delivery.

This is what I have learned based on my research. Decline, you get $700 voucher AWD, $1400 (2x700) Beast.

I was told by my Tesla energy rep that you can back out anytime before or after receiving the quote. I was originally thinking about it then backed out. Communication was great when I was going to go through with it, but since declining, its been radio silence for 3 weeks. I have reached out 3 times and nothing.

Did you get an invite to fill out the survey for PowerShare? It was spelled out in that. I selected "NO" because I'm currently renting and I get the one year supercharging. I'm not sure what happens if you selected "YES" but then decline. I tried to go back to the survey but it is no longer available to me since I completed it.

I must have said 'Yes' since I was later contacted by the installer to conduct an on-site evaluation. That's been done and I now have a quote for $3165. I'm debating if I should go ahead with it. I'm not sure what a $700 voucher is good for. I read somewhere that the voucher can only be used for a single purchase (it's not like a gift card).

This was also my experience. My understanding is that most of the cost to install the v2h is the labor, not the equipment.
There was a rumor going around that only the universal wall charger from tesla works for v2h, this is false. A modern tesla gateway and software is the brains that makes it work, not the connector itself. Any high powered, installed Tesla charger works, according to Tesla when I asked. You didn't ask, but this gave me heartburn at the time lol

It's not single purchase so much as one-time use. You can add as much as you want on the Tesla shop to get to $700. But, if you're short, then the remaining value is lost. You can't go back and use the rest like a GC.

I'm getting the vault divider and the outrageously expensive Tesla Air Compressor Ultra. That will put me way over $700 haha!!

My original quote came in at $5200, I’m currently getting quotes from additional Tesla Certified Electricians. One electrician declined to quote after not being able to get information from anyone at Tesla on how they can get the equipment ordered. Some of these companies figure their work is worth $500/hr and more. Seems absurd.

I’m considering a manual transfer switch instead at this point.

I plan on buying the HPWC (or whatever they call it now) using the credit. I want to keep the UMC in the vehicle. My 2013MS UMC did stop working at some point, I only used it like once in over 10 years successfully. I tried the UMC again when I moved to a new house, and discovered it was bricked.

They have quoted me $3500.00 for the PowerShire Gateway but declined, since loosing power in my area is rare.
I have got my CT last week, but wondering when do I get my $ 700.00 Tesla store credit!

YES, you do NOT want to buy a $40 mug while waiting on a new roof rack or something!!!!

I’m not because I live in a one bedroom condo and my hoa won’t allow it. I’ll take the free super charging instead.
