WARNING PSA for PG&E customers. Any changes to your electrical setup (solar, batteries, etc) that requires a permit may cause PG&E to re-classify you on the latest NEM 3.0 schedule, which is not as beneficial to solar customers for "turning the meter backwards" during peak hours.
I'm also concerned about this. I've got solar and powerwalls and am grandfathered on NEM 2.0, if the PS install switches me so 3.0 it will cost me hundreds of dollars a year or more.

If anyone on PG&E gets a quote or talks to PG&E, please make sure to verify they will not reset your NEM status and let us know!

Yeah, I only know about this because our Powerwall install forced us from NEM 1 to NEM 2. Definitely cost us $$ on resell.

Next prediction: PG&E will start whining about people doing mods to their solar installs without permits.... :)

Sounds like a lawsuit is coming Tesla's way. The Powershare equipment was included in the purchase of the Cybertruck and now if you don't use their installer they give you 6 months or 1 year of supercharging which is not equivalent to the value of the equipment. I told Tesla in the survey that I was moving in a couple of years and would not be installing the equipment at my current residence and I still got approved. I had a Model 3 for over five years and barely used supercharging since I had a wall charger installed.
You maybe should have thought about it when you ordered it. A lawsuit isn't going to get far.

Your response doesn't make any sense. How would I have thought about it when I placed the order? It is listed as equipment purchased and does not mention you're ass out if you can install it. So you're telling me that if I purchase something and don't receive it is not grounds for a lawsuit? If so, I have some property on the beach I'll sell you for $100k, just a hint you'll never get the property.

I can get all the help I need for Tru Up. so having the battery here and using it with the other 2 batteries I have will be great to turn that meter backwards. can't wait. Tru Up is criminal.

For me, critical loads are:
1) Refrigerator and freezer
2) Lights in every room (selectively turned on)
3) Internet (modem, router)
4) Room outlets (selectively used)
5) Gas furnace

In summer my solar panels will typically produce 20 to 30 kWh each day. If the grid is down and the sun is shining, there's plenty of solar power during the day to supply my needs. Excess solar is exported to the grid and taken back a night to charge my Tesla and run the A/C. My monthly electric bill is $0.00 in spring, summer and fall.

In a blackout, the problem is having power overnight. The house battery is sized to handle overnight power consumption for those critical load circuits. Overnight power consumption from the protected loads panel typically drops to ~500W or less. A fully charged 9.6 kWh battery will easily last 12+ hours until solar output resumes, and the battery is recharged. Here's the system:

I just got an email that says I qualify for the Powershare Home installation. What happens if I refuse it?

Who said you aren't going to receive it? That's a rumor. All that I saw stated was that Tesla would help offset installation prices up to $4k if you use their installers.

Sounds like the current implementation of Powershare is strictly for grid fault backup, so the truck probably needs to detect a blackout to work. I have Tesla solar and Powerwall at my house, so I expect Powershare to only work during an outage where my Powerwall has depleted. I intend to ask if they can simply give me the Tesla Energy Gateway hardware for use later (might be moving soon), since my house already has the hardware.

Let us know how that goes because I was thinking about that as well. Especially with the Wall connector. I have a few powerwalls and 2 wall connectors, one for each of my Teslas. Now with this Cybertruck, Ill want that extra connector.

Yes, power failure is what I suspect that the primary usage is. I'd guess a future enhancement would be load shedding, where the utility can send a request for your system to disconnect from the grid, still equivalent to power fail, but actually load shed.

Good to hear. Up in Portland and we just had a heck of a storm, so the wife wants a Generac and we got our PowerShare approval this week as well. Wondering how to coordinate between the two backup systems. Thanks for sharing.

A lot will depend on the size of the generator that you are thinking about and the number of loads.

Some of the smaller generators will require critical circuits to be moved to a separate panel with a transfer switch. This probably would be required for 10kW and under generators, or more specifically any generator not capable of running your entire house.
If the circuit is less than 11kW, then PowerShare could provide the hang from power failure to generator start and stabilize, which may be a minute or two.
If you get a whole house generator, which may be 20kW or more, then you may use PowerShare to still protect some circuits, ones that you want to stay on while the generator is cranking.

And of course I'm talking about auto-start generators and not the portable ones.

I got approved as well, and I've got a 60kW (oversized) generator out back. But I've got some servers that I would like not wait for the generator to crank.

Thanks for the additional information. Looking at 18 to 24kw generator. Luckily I am not running anything that critical at home, so it is really just furnace, water, refrigerators and kitchen i want to run. The PowerShare is more of a backup for the backup, and just a geek for the technology as well. Thanks again.

My house is getting a 400A setup from the utility, split into two 200A panels. I've got a Powerwall doing its thing on one of the 200A circuits with a V2 gateway. Now, I'm wondering if it's possible to install the new V3 gateway on the other 200A circuit. Any insights or advice on this situation?
