I know the vault length is said to be 6.5 feet. I’m guessing that’s with the bed door down. Any idea what the length would be with the door closed?

Also, given the reduction in size recently announced, do we anticipate this changing the bed size dramatically?

Modern short bed trucks have a bed length of 6.5'..............8' with the tailgate down. Pretty sure that's the specs of the Cybertruck. There was a tweet that the overall size might be reduced by 3% without loss of function. The bed is function. Shortening the bed would not be a thing well received and apparently which Musk has said would not happen.

That should be with the tailgate up. should be 8' with the Tailgate down. It would be extremely misleading for Tesla to give that dimension with the Tailgate down, thats not the norm.

Sure you can get them, most people seem to buy the 1/2 ton trucks with the 5.5' bed. Which is why Tesla is shooting for the CT to have a smaller footprint with a 1ft longer bed. Smaller Truck more usable space.

There seems to be a lot of guesswork over the design and capabilities of the Cybertruck against what was actually stated, so I’ve created this list from the transcript of the presentation, along with any relevant tweets from Musk. After all, even Neil deGrasse Tyson got it wrong when he claimed the Cybertruck was much heavier than the F150.

Here is the link for the transcript:

Tesla Cybertruck Event Transcript: Elon Musk Unveils Cybertruck - Rev

Feel free to list additional info or corrections as they become available.

Chassis/frame:
  • same dimensions, same weight [as F150, 4000-5600 lbs]

  • won’t scratch. It doesn’t dent
  • ultra hard, cold rolled stainless steel alloy that we’ve developed
  • going to be using the same alloy in the Starship rocket and in the Cybertruck
  • transparent metal glass (Tesla armored glass)
  • aerodynamic - possible cd of .30 (source: tweet)

  • best angular approach angle
  • best departure angle
Cybertruck Vault:
  • a hundred cubic feet

Going for either the raw steel or a military-style colour option for nostalgia's sake - will one be able to paint the cold-rolled steel?
Musk said wrapping the vehicle was the option for color changes. A great idea as you could change easily.

I was playing with the CT designer and I know it isn’t perfect but I don’t see how the windows can retract into the door. Has anyone looked at this?

With the truck reducing length by 3 percent that should put the tundra by Toyota at a longer dimension correct . I don’t think many people keep their trucks in their garage I’m not a big fan of reducing the size .

Elon said they weren't going to reduce the size. I'm one of those people who parked their truck in my garage.

Right. He reneged on that at least a month ago after talking with the chief designer; said the CT would remain the size of the prototype. I wonder why no one has been able to get those bed heights (inside the tonneau of course). At the Petersen they could have eyeballed it within an inch I bet.

But the vault was closed so I think it would be difficult?

oh, I did not know, but if you are right it could still be eyeballed. I saw people with measuring tapes in some of the videos. The best they could do on any measurement would have been guesses, but guesses are better than nothing.
