You may recall that, at Investor Day, Tesla boasted that they can now build a drive unit for a flat $1,000, so knock off what, $5,000 from the $98,000 price tag? I am not saying that I believe this price, or that it will stay with us for very long; only that removing a drive unit is not likely to be the savings you are suggesting.
I’d ask whether *those* are the drive units needed for the CT (dual or performance)

that they have a drive unit they can build for $1,000, that does not mean the Semi, Plaid, or CT drive units are those

This rumor has been found to be false.

How is Ford telling people at the launch event, including the Global Head, a rumor? If anything, the battery tech isn’t performing as originally hoped, but official Ford reps were saying the 320 is with 1,000 lbs at multiple events, multiple places, multiple times, with multiple cameras.

My range estimate is consistently 330-350 depending on weather with 2 adults and stuff in the truck.

Also, as an owner. No, it’s not a rumor. I have reserve left after 266 miles at 75 mph. It uses around 1.9 to 2.0 kw/mi per the dash.

Inverse is true on the Y. The model Y we have will not make the advertised range or even make it up that same 266 miles without stopping.

The $1,000 investor day drive unit you're referring to is that of the future next gen vehicle, it's not in production yet nor would it likely be suitable for Cybertruck.

That's beside the point anyway as I wasn't suggesting a potential $30k difference in price would be due to cost savings, the margin on the tri motor would be higher than that of the dual.

obviously this could have been edited -- ie. inspected tesla page
UPDATE: also that seems like it would be the filename (ie. file within the documents folder)

Because it's a rumor that they did. There is no evidence they did that. And no, the range is not as rated by carrying around a 1000 pound load.

Yeah, Tesla never uses non-round prices.

RN:112562932 -- If reservation number is incremental, then this is NOT cybertruck reservation number.

The RN proves that it's fake, CT RN numbers start at 112744000

I think we have different definitions of rumor? No evidence that they did what? There are video interviews all over YouTube from the Detroit Auto Show to the Pittsburg Auto Show where reps were saying the range numbers were conservative, derated, etc. 400 miles was floated a lot. When I saw it at the Auto Show, I was told similar.

The statements certainly could have been misinformed or maybe accurate at the time and no longer accurate statements. But unless I’m missing something, Ford employees making the statement on camera, makes it not a rumor?

Then you'll have no trouble finding a Ford exec making this claim on camera.

-Crissa
So it’s only not a rumor if an exec makes the statement, but the employees that work the shows with data sheets to talk from makes it rumor? If an employee says it, it’s suddenly rumor? That seems backwards as I would bet dollars to donuts the employees know more about the trucks capabilities than the execs do. If someone who is wearing a Ford badge gives me stats, I don’t consider that rumor. However, Ford is also not the one being investigated for egregious range claims.

Kind of nitpicking.

Either way, the impact of cargo on it is well documented and not a huge drop off, so I could see where they got the optimistic figures from originally at one point. The worst I have seen is 1.7 with a fridge in the back at 75-80 mph (~250 mile range shown). The best I have seen is 2.0/2.1 at 65-70 mph (~340 mile shown). It’s not far from the 300 mile range no matter what I do. The BMS reports more than 10% battery left even when the display shows me 0%. It’s why I don’t worry about 266 mile trips. I don’t think twice about 300 miles as a planning target. The aero seems to matter much more than weight in the back on road trips. That fridge was a suck, even though it wasn’t heavy. A bunch of bags of Quickcrete, for example, didn’t really flinch it.

Still waiting for this very real person saying it on camera, instead of being nitpicked I used the word 'exec' instead of 'employee'.

Oh you’re one of those people that has enough unconscious bias that something can’t possibly exist and pushes the burden to me to link you video? Just look at say, the news out of Pittsburg, Detroit Auto Show, LAS, reviewers like TFL truck, etc. and owners reviews on YT. Representatives were making statements like 400 miles and such. Whether that range existed ever, certainly could be rumor. I’m not disputing that part being possible rumor, though I suspect it’s more a case of data changing during product development and not everyone has the current numbers. However, the number was coming from Ford employees. They were 100% out there making range statements beyond the advertising range in many different ways. I am only disputing that it was rumored to be said.

Here, I’ll give you the first one I found:

Also, you should probably let people like TFL Truck and Marques Brown lee that they are liars and certainly didn’t hear what they said they heard.

Yes, it must be a giant conspiracy that the number 400+ wasn’t floated around. Demo trucks weren’t showing 400+ mile ranges. I must be lying that I can get 300 miles with cargo all day long. The thousand lbs number doesn’t even matter as 1,000 lbs barely moves the range needle in any meaningful way anyways. The only thing that does is the Boat, which I suspect is more aero than load.

Some of the folks that have had range issues on the FB group I’m part of, didn’t even know the Inverter was on and sucking 10%+ of the battery. You have to explicitly turn off ProPower in the dash.

I’m watching the CT intently, because I am incredibly disappointed with the Y and I was very interested in the purported 500 mile range. Next to the Y, even the Mach-E is appealing in range. But if the Y is any indication, I am not going to get anywhere near 500 miles on a CT either. I dream of the day I can make the trip up and back with an EV and I was hoping CT was there, but the current incarnation of the truck is causing my interest to waver.

All of these companies should stop announcing things and saying things and charging for things that don’t even exist. It’s a terrible consumer experience. CT never should have been announced until it was a finalized design. Lightning never should have shipped with known battery issues and headaches (I’m on update #3 already).

What time point does he mention testing with a thousand extra pounds?

-Crissa

PS, He also says the range is 400 miles radius. That's uhh... What model?
