I was just there at UTC San Diego Tesla store. I didn't' see the placard in the photo. Did you take it home with you? My impressions of the CT? Enormous in size and impressive to see in person. Provided my Reservation Number to one of the Tesla people who signed me up for some sort of event following 11/30. Whatever it may be....I'm there. And yes, the display CT had exterior Mirrors (2 of them) and a giant single windshield wiper. There were all kinds of smudges on the Body panels from greasy little fingers as though the CT had been attacked by a class of 5 year olds. I saw NO reference to shatter proof glass for the CT.

11,000 pounds towing "power." C'mon Tesla, it's weight, not power.

Yeah but "power" sounds better
Direct from the Marketing Department. Physics be damned.

hold up, hold up, we all know what happened the last time the engineers overrode the marketing department:

Tesla Cybertruck Confirmed: 11,000 lbs tow rating / 2,500 lbs payload capacity (official specs)! + Shatter-resistant glass 72F37D7C-A1E6-4F69-8A6E-702C322C3AC9

** as an aside, I just love the line “Cybertrucj can perform in almost any extreme situation with ease.”

the ambiguity of knowing exactly which “extreme situations” count, is to me a chuckle since extreme situations are when one most needs to know the details

A Rivian weighs same/ more than the Cyber Truck. R1T curb weight = 6,914 - 7,148 lbs. CT reported under 6,900 lbs.
Sorry let me clarify.. The CT should have much better control over the weight than the Rivian. There are so many things that help, and hurt trailering. Height, weight, tires, WHP, wheelbase and track width.. So overall I would assume the CT will be better at managing heaving trailers. I just speaking generally though, I haven't driven a Rivian, but I have done a lot of trailering.

The only 2 ways the CT had a chance of doing this was 1) With a 500 mile version of the truck or 2) a better price for similar mileage.

1 isn't happening (for now) we'll see about 2...

True.

The Cybertruck is not going to blow the Ford F150 out of the water, as fan boys have hyped.
The CT will be a great ELECTRIC vehicle that happens to look funky and can be a pickup.
Ford will still sell a lot of trucks. The Cybertruck will probably take a sliver each out of Ram, GMC and Ford pickup sales. But certainly not wipe them out.

The first 2 years I expect the price to be high....like the Rivian and Lightning. Maybe in 2026 it will be less expensive. We will see. It sure will sell ....to those willing to pay the price.

FOOTNOTE. I owned a Ford F150. I sold it to buy the Ford Lightning. I like the Lightning way more than I did my F150. The Lightning is better in a lot of ways. Except for if I were towing an Airstream 1000 miles or pulling backhoes 300 miles to the cabin. I do miss the 35 mile gas tank which gave me 700 miles of range on trips.

Want to have the onboard suspension air up to handle 3500 pounds? Pay for the upgrade and it the software magically allows it… kidding/not kidding - I’m ok with 2500 kinda, seriously.

Big news!!!

As expected the Cybertruck beats out the 1/2 ton BEV pickup competition.

The Big Three 3/4 and 1 ton platform team bosses just breathed a sigh of relief. The BEV Cybertruck won’t be competing in the high profit gas and diesel HD 2500/3500 pickup truck segment. They will still have that market all to themselves.

You know that Ford is taking these numbers to the 2025 F150 T3 development team to make sure that their all new 1/2 ton BEV truck beats the Cybertruck in tow and payload ratings.

-Cybertruck: 11,000 lb. max tow rating + 2500 pound payload
-F150 Lightning: 10,000 lb. max tow capacity + 2235 pound payload
-Rivian R1T: 11,000 lb. may tow capacity + 1764 pound payload
-Silverado EV WT: 10,000 lb. max tow capacity + 1400 pound payload
Silverado EV towing is 12,500 lbs and payload is 2,500 lbs. The higher numbers were announced in September.

I have one of those hammers in my car to use in case my car goes in the water and I need to escape.

How does that work with shatter proof windows?
https://lifehacker.com/the-right-way-to-break-a-car-window-in-an-emergency-1849743591
"Note that the rear side windows may still be made of tempered glass, even if the front ones are laminated. That’s crucial info, because you might still be able to escape your car in seconds if you can just shatter those windows."

pre-order agreement”

“pre” meaning, before you’ve done any ordering

to be fair to you, the whole marketing schlock of these pre-orders is somewhat intended to cause you’re exact confusion: “I’m so excited, I’ve ordered something, and I guess now I kind of feel committed to follow through with my commitment!”

but, the titles of documents don’t technically mean anything.

it’s the writing below the title that counts. Writing such as:
“…any pre-order price provided to you in advance of the Final Price Sheet is only being offered to you as an estimate and is subject to change.
Your Pre-Order Payment covers the cost of [us trying to selling you something later] and other processing costs and is not a deposit for the Vehicle.
This Pre-Order Payment and this Agreement are not made or entered into in anticipation of or pending any conditional sale contract.
You understand that Tesla may not have completed the development of Cybertruck or begun manufacturing Cybertruck at the time you entered into this Agreement and so we do not guarantee when your Vehicle will actually be delivered.”

Translation: “it’s nice to meet you, hope we’ve gotten you sufficiently excited that you might even think we owe you something here, and maybe even have caused you to feel you owe us something in return - talk to you in 4 years! This concludes your pre-order!”

I bet these numbers are well within tolerance ranges. A truck that weighs ~7k Lbs will pull an 11k trailer very well. It won't be as white knuckle as someone driving a Rivian pulling the same trailer. I would bet this would pull anything under 15k just fine.
I hope so, I have a 14 k trailer and I need to haul my 12 k JD 350 C crawler.
