Thanks for the F-150 Lightning suggestion! The extra cab space definitely sounds great for families.

However, for me, Tesla's Cybertruck stands out because it's more than just an electric vehicle; it's a whole new way of building cars. Their Giga Casting and vertical integration are fascinating innovations, and Tesla seems to be constantly pushing the boundaries.

While space is a consideration, Tesla's appeal goes beyond that. Interestingly, my 6'2" son actually fits comfortably back there! So, for me, the cutting-edge technology and future potential outweigh the slight sacrifice in backseat size.

Those in the covered wagons weren't just going on vacation and very few had any picnics.
Many had a trip that definitely were not a picnic.

Those in the covered wagons were moving (if they stopped moving before reaching a destination they probably had died of accident/injury or died of starvation/thirst/heat-stroke/hypothermia or were murdered).
Based on my early childhood computer games, I'm pretty sure most of them died of dysentery. IYKYK

? ? ? Well now, isn't this a refreshing change of pace? A Ford loyalist who went out of their way to register on a Tesla forum, just to try and troll Cybertruck fans with claims about the F-150 Lightning. How delightfully quirky!

I can only imagine the scene - this person sitting at their computer, brow furrowed in determination as they scoured the internet for a Cybertruck fan community. "Aha, the perfect place to spread some not-so-subtle Ford propaganda and ruffle some feathers!"

Because really, what better way to try and sway potential Cybertruck buyers than to outright lie about getting a comically large $50,000 discount on a Lightning simply for not ordering a Tesla? I'm no financial advisor, but I'm pretty sure that's...not how that works. At all.

Unless Ford is running a crazy "De-Cyberize Your Truck Order" special that I'm not aware of? In which case, sign me up for that sweet, sweet rebate action! I'll gladly take a $50k payout from the Lightning team just for having exceptional taste in futuristic truck design.

All jokes aside though, it's pretty clear this person either A) Works for Ford's marketing team and this is just an incredibly lazy attempt at astroturfing or B) They just really, really dislikes Tesla for some reason and wants to stir up drama anywhere they can find Cybertruck fans congregating.

Either way, pulling that kind of nonsense on an enthusiast forum dedicated to an unreleased product is pretty cringeworthy. If you're going to troll, put some effort into it at least! Maybe throw in some Monty Python quotes or animal facts to keep things interesting.

At the end of the day, the Cybertruck and Lightning are aimed at different audiences with different priorities. No need for these weird undercover ops to fight pointless battery battles. Just let people enjoy their preferred future trucks in peace!

I represent the significant portion of consumers who are purchasing a Cybertruck for urban driving, essentially utilizing it as a multifunctional SUV. The appeal lies in its versatility, which allows it to serve as a robust city vehicle while offering the added utility and features of an SUV.
??‍♂yup same here. SUV With truck type skills - bikes, skis, furniture lawn stuff, ladder transport, occasion cargo trailer

One reason this test is flawed is due to variation in OEM tire choice.

Rivian demonstrates this with significant range difference between the 21 inch "road" and 20 inch "A/T" tires on the same model.

Cybertruck in this test has A/T tires. All other trucks have road/highway tires, with lower friction and hence higher range as a basic function of tread design. The Cybertruck does suprisingly well at higher speeds. Looks like Lars Moravy and the tire engineers at Tesla really did achieve somthing great with the tire compound.

I would like to see a range test of the Cybertruck with a highway oriented tire like MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S Might add range, might not, based on the engineering that went into Cybertruck's OEM tire.
This is an underrated and underdiscussed part of That test . Makes it even more impressive what the CT did

I assume you were going to pay cash for both? If so, you are right.

Software is like Motorola vs Apple. Good truck, but ford isn’t an EV company. They are ICE that are learning.. maybe someday, but right now, a Tesla is the way to go imho

Anybody have any data on relationship between battery weight and range? How heavy does an added battery have to be to negate its range benefit?

This out of spec test says to me that Tesla is very likely to exceed silverado EV with less battery weight and Kw/h.

123 kw battery gets 305 miles in this test
People say range extender supposed to add 470+ total range so about 170 to 200 miles range in the pack which may be about a 62 kw battery. So 185 to 190 kw to get more range than silverado ev that has 215 kw battery.

Tesla clearly has superior battery technology in this test.

And for those who say out of spec kyle is objective.....he is a total homer for Rivian!

I think any of these trucks are good but Tesla read the market better than Chevy for example. Most people don't need more range than the cybertruck and would rather benefit from steer by wire in an urban environment when most people dont do truck things with trucks.

Clearly if you want to tow, get a silverado. If you want to be a sort subaru person of sorts for EVs get a rivian. If you want to go electric for least cost get a lightning. If you want an outrageous and awesome design (imho) that is great for urban driving with more than sufficient range and can do truck things get the cybertruck.

No, they never succeed. Motorola never learned to be apple, Yahoo never learned to be Google, IBM never learned to be Microsoft. This is the way always be unfortunately. established success ful company simply don’t have the mindset to be innovative.

One day Tesla will be like Motorola, yahoo,IBM, but not now.

To put that argument into perspective, In the 1970's I would hear people making the same type of argument back in the 1970's. A Chevy Chevette has the same capabilities as an Audi Fox, why would someone spend so much more on the Audi? I mean, they both got 5 people where they were going, right?

If you want the cheapest electric truck, then buy the cheapest electric truck! But if you want something built to a higher standard, with better engineering, better suspension, more payload capacity, bigger tires, more off-road performance, more enclosed storage space, better software, more comprehensive charging network that costs less, more maneuverable in tight spaces, tougher body and glass, etc. etc. etc, then get the Cybertruck.

Fair, I wasn’t trying to get that deep in the weeds on my analogy other than Ford software is not even close to Tesla’s, but I appreciate the added response!

... because for literally years people were wanting a ~500 mile range truck for towing
Very good video on the above topic. Kyle/OutOfSpec is also doing a towing test.

Can Tesla’s Cybertruck Finally Solve Towing? Not Yet...
