I'm a bit of a contrarian on this point. I have a late 2022 Model Y and was planning to upgrade to either the Model Y refresh with HW4 or a dual motor Cybertruck next year (depending on price, can't afford $100k). If they're limiting HW3 FSD after this short a time (6 months for some buyers) they'll quite likely do the same with HW4 (AI4). In this scenario I'd probably keep the 2022 Model Y (which is awesome) and consider upgrading when AI5 is released (~18 months Elon time). I'd also most likely cancel my FSD subscription if new versions aren't rolled out (simply out of irritation). V12.4.3 is very good but I'm not cool with continuing to pay $99/month if it's a dead end. Besides that I have to wear sunglasses. Tesla could easily make a HW4 computer that has connections compatible with HW3. Childs play. Not that much different than installing a new CPU/MB in your computer. Cameras would also be easy to change if that's necessary. The real question is: do they have the will to do it to support their current customers? Hopefully...
Edit: scottf200 replied to HW3 concerns below. It seems that Elon posted that v12.5.x would be coming to HW3 is ~10 days, so fairly soon. Thanks for the info Scott!
