I'm a bit of a contrarian on this point. I have a late 2022 Model Y and was planning to upgrade to either the Model Y refresh with HW4 or a dual motor Cybertruck next year (depending on price, can't afford $100k). If they're limiting HW3 FSD after this short a time (6 months for some buyers) they'll quite likely do the same with HW4 (AI4). In this scenario I'd probably keep the 2022 Model Y (which is awesome) and consider upgrading when AI5 is released (~18 months Elon time). I'd also most likely cancel my FSD subscription if new versions aren't rolled out (simply out of irritation). V12.4.3 is very good but I'm not cool with continuing to pay $99/month if it's a dead end. Besides that I have to wear sunglasses. Tesla could easily make a HW4 computer that has connections compatible with HW3. Childs play. Not that much different than installing a new CPU/MB in your computer. Cameras would also be easy to change if that's necessary. The real question is: do they have the will to do it to support their current customers? Hopefully...

Edit: scottf200 replied to HW3 concerns below. It seems that Elon posted that v12.5.x would be coming to HW3 is ~10 days, so fairly soon. Thanks for the info Scott!

I'm impatient for it, too - but I'm good with testing the crap out of it. The last thing we need is for an influencer to have 'an incident' because they didn't have enough miles in test coverage.

Like, if a Kardashian on FSD drives over one of the other Kardashians, that's the end of FSD for the foreseeable future.

Whenever Elon gives you a release date you have to keep in mind. He’s also talking to the guys working the product and is his way of applying pressure.

Thanks! Did he mention anything about when v12.5 might be available for HW3 vehicles?
Chuck Cook @chazman
Here is the HW3 on FSD Supervised v12.5.x answer straight from
@Elonmusk
.. Estimated 10 days. Sounds like the release before the @Cybertruck gets its turn.
>>Elon Musk @Elonmusk
It takes considerable software effort to optimize the code enough to run on HW3. It also needs to be validated separately.
Estimated rollout is about 10 days.

Elon Musk @elonmusk
FSD 12.5.1 starts wide release today.
Please connect your Tesla to WiFi to receive the update.

That will depend on the ratings. This could be a whole new show. "FSDering", with theme song from Bad Boys (Cops).

You are jumping way past reality. There is nothing to suggest that HW3 isn't going to be able to handle FSD for years to come.
And I suspect that the there is a LOT more going on behind the scenes with the HW4 release than Tesla is letting out. I wouldn't surprise me if they weren't running multiple models at once and real-time sending the info back.

There are 5 years of Model 3 owners and 3 years of Model Y owners before you that Tesla and Elon have promised FSD to for years.

Let the story play out and see what reality and not the conjecture of YouTubers and FSD conspiracy theories bring up.

Remember there are a large number of people who are really scared that Tesla is going to prove them wrong, that indeed FSD will exist, it can be done on existing hardware and that it can be done with cameras only!

I am sure a CEO can find ways to apply pressure on his team without misleading the customers. Never once have a received a directive from our CEO and thought... "does the public know about this... no? Ok we can take our time."

Elon is a hopeless optimist, I can relate. I also always over promise and under deliver. Its a real character flaw.

As opposed to the vast majority of CEOs who under promise and under deliver?

But mostly, it's not really possible to accurately specify how long it is going to take to deliver the impossible.

It was only a very few years ago, that what Elon was doing with both SpaceX and Tesla was literally and functionally impossible.

Like I said, a timeline of the impossible is, well, impossible?

Since Cybertruck is HW4; why wouldn't it come before the HW3 release?
Because of the CTs different variables like rear wheel steering, steer by wire, and different camera heights/distances.
