problem is I do a lot of road trips and wouldn't want it to happen then.
Generally you can still charge w/ SC's with a PCS failure so road trips are unaffected.
What I would mainly worry about is having to pay full price for it failing just after warranty.
If I were on an older model I'd especially want to drill the life down of the failing PCS before it expires.

Honest, seems like the last update really caused (or at least identified earlier) this for many folks, perhaps with a more strict test threshold or something. Getting mine replaced next week.

If I remember correctly, Supercharging is also affected.
IIRC it is inconsistent. There was one guy who was told by the SC that supercharging would work but it failed after heading over to one to try it. Not sure how many others have tested it though vs just driving over and dropping it off.

escalate to the center manager/director
It’s a well known problem and should be a recalled
Covered by warranty
I had the same, couldn’t charge at a Level 2 home or away but was able to charge at a supercharger, Tesla fixed it within 48 hours.

I am a data point for not always. Put in a service ticket when my home charger draw wouldn't go a above 24a. Literally the day I put that in, the PCS2 failed. SC said to try it at a supercharger but wouldn't work there either. My scheduled appointment was almost 3 weeks out, they took me in and got me in a loaner truck even though they had said over the phone they likely wouldn't have a ct for me to drive.

17k miles on my CB.

Right, if you can still charge at 24A, Supercharger probably works. If you have no AC charging, DC charging may be gone also.

Got the truck back today. Took a week as I dropped it in early due to me being 150 miles away from the SC but they stuck to their repair date. Also, I think the air compressor is quieter now so that might be a happy side effect of the repair.

Compressor had to come out for PCS access, so it may have gotten mounted better when they reinstalled it.

Tesla's PCS woes are not new with the Cybertruck. They've experienced them for years, across their entire vehicle lineup.

The PCS2 included in the Cybertruck is a major redesign... but would seem to be no improvement (from a reliability standpoint) over the first-gen PCS. Both the original PCS and the newer PCS2 are extremely complex and contain numerous potential points of failure.

Given how long PCS problems have been around and how prevalent they continue to be, I would venture that Tesla is probably seeing multiple component failures within the PCS2. If it were as "simple" as one or a few problematic components, that would seem relatively straightforward to address.

As for owners understanding where they sit vis-a-vis the health of their own Cybertruck's PCS2... Service Mode is your friend. If something is beginning to go awry it will almost certainly be reported there.
